Last week, we celebrated Shavuot with learning, laughter, plenty of dairy, and lots of meaningful conversation! From our Erev Shavuot immersive retelling of the Book of Ruth to late-night study and heartfelt stories about welcoming and belonging, the holiday brought everyone, from young to young-at-heart, together as one community.

One especially memorable moment came during the immigration panel, when a panelist shared the emotional story of a woman who, after becoming a U.S. citizen, said, “I’m finally a part of something.” It was a beautiful reminder of the power of community—and what it means to truly love your neighbor.

Todah rabbah to the panelists, Book of Ruth Players (pictured), and everyone who helped make Shavuot possible!

This Friday evening, we invite you to join us for one of the few moments each year when congregants, clergy, staff, and lay leaders gather together in one room as a full community.

Our 142nd Annual Meeting is an opportunity to reflect on where we have been, celebrate the people who help make Adath so meaningful, and look ahead toward the future we are building together. We will welcome new board members, honor Jeannie Gilfix as our 2026 Shem Tov Award recipient, and lift up the work, relationships, and shared purpose that continue to strengthen our congregation.

Most importantly, this gathering is a reminder that you matter here. Your presence, your voice, and your participation help shape the future of Adath and the kind of Jewish community we hope to build together for generations to come.

Last week, Rabbi Harold Kravitz was honored by The Rabbinical Assembly (RA) for his immeasurable support, education, counsel, and care for the Jewish community. We could not be more proud and grateful to have such a wonderful leader in our Adath kehillah.

Because of Rabbi Kravitz, the RA has been able to:
• Publish the new Lev Shalem Siddur for Weekdays.
• Advance professional skills through continuing education opportunities, such as partnering with JTS to facilitate the Rabbinic Training Institute and sessions on understanding Family Systems Theory.
• Bring colleagues together in person and online for learning and bonding, including Celebrating 40 Years of Women during the RA retreat.
• and more...

To further recognize his impact in the Jewish world, The Rabbinical Assembly will be establishing the Rabbi Harold J. Kravitz Leadership and Strategic Planning Fund from funds raised this year, which will provide leadership training for staff and volunteer leaders and ensure mission-driven growth and sustainability.

Gan Shelanu Preschoolers recently took a "trip to Israel" to celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day), Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day), and more!

"Our trip to Israel was perfect; smooth flight and beautiful weather! We [were] excited to celebrate by marching with Israeli flags, dressed in blue and white, as we welcome[d] Shabbat together." (Lea Brand)

The children created art in Safed, visited the Kotel, learned about citrus in Rehovot, climbed Masada, took part in an archaeological dig, and dined at Café Yerushalayim eating pita, tomato, cucumber, and the famous Gan dip.

"It was so fun to see a bunch of happy Gan kiddos visiting the Kotel in Israel (the Spine) today. They were drawing pictures and writing messages to add to the wall. It was very sweet!" (Anna Simon)

"I recently had the privilege of sitting down with our 9th & 10th graders to talk about the mitzvah and traditions of Chevra Kavod HaMet. We had an open conversation about death and how Chevra supports the deceased and their families. We talked about practices like Shomrim (sitting with the deceased), Tahara (ritual washing), and explored the meaning behind tachrichim (simple garments used for burial) and why they matter. The students asked thoughtful, insightful questions; it was a meaningful and engaging discussion all around."

- Peter Gross, Co-chair, Chevra Kavod HaMet

More than 50 USYers spent last weekend in Iowa for Spring Kallah: EMTZAFEST! The weekend featured an exciting lineup of music-themed programs including blind karaoke, Just Dance, and a silent disco. Alongside all the fun, USYers enjoyed a meaningful Shabbat experience and the opportunity to connect with Jewish teens from across the Midwest.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from Rabbi Barry Cytron as our guest Shabbat speaker.

In a career spanning six decades, Rabbi Cytron has served three Conservative congregations, directed a pioneering Minnesota interfaith initiative, and connected with thousands of university age students in his role as teacher and mentor.

During rabbinical school (JTS), he led a large suburban New Jersey religious school. His tenures at both Tifereth Israel (Des Moines) and Adath Jeshurun Congregation were marked by robust commitments to adult learning, the completion of major building projects, and the first establishments of dedicated endowments, including the Max Newman family rabbinic posting. His love for quality education continues today in his board service to RISE EARLY, a groundbreaking early childhood center nestled in an affordable housing complex.

For over thirty years, he wrote regularly for the book review and commentary pages of the Minneapolis [now Minnesota] Star Tribune. With celebrated Jewish educator Earl Schwartz, he wrote two books exploring Jewish ethical teachings, and Lerner Books published two books, the first his recounting of the disastrous 1966 JTS library fire, and with his wife Phyllis, a biography detailing the enthralling, forceful life of renowned Myriam Mendilow, founder of Jerusalem’s Lifeline for the Aged.

A signal source of professional naches springs from his nearly three-decade stint as professor and chaplain at Macalester College. Today, nine of his former Mac students, ordained as rabbis, serve diverse Jewish communities across the nation. During those same years, he has continued to teach fall and spring congregational classes and work alongside the Adath staff to bring guest speakers and coordinate adult cultural enrichment.

Tuesday night, voices were loud and proud as Ilan Zeroni, Hazzan Dulkin, and Ben Bitton led us in celebrating Israel's 78th birthday through Israeli song.

Before the singing even began, there was a hum of Hebrew language in the room as folks gathered from all over the Twin Cities to celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut. This Singing Circle was one of many community events celebrating and honoring Israel and the Jewish People throughout these recent holidays - Yom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron, Yom Ha'atzmaut, and upcoming Yom Yerushalayim. How wonderful it is to come together as a Jewish community.

Todah rabbah to Ilan and our Israel committee for making this dream a reality. You can catch up on the music by listening to the songs on this Spotify playlist.
