Evening Prayer

We will praise You, O God, with our whole heart. We will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving kindness and for Your truth — for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

In the day when we cried to You, and You answered us. We thank You for Your love, which never fails; and for Your grace, which is given for every moment of need. Though You are high — yet You have respect unto the lowly. Your eyes see even the least of Your redeemed children. The youngest child is watched over by You. You hear the cry of the birds in their hunger. We rejoice to think of the care You have for every child of Your own, and how secure we are in the keeping of Your love. You have been, and You are, our dwelling-place.

Though we walk in the midst of trouble, You will protect us. You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of the Evil One, who seeks our destruction. Forsake not the work of Your own hands. Allow us not to fall away into darkness, and into the pains of eternal death — but deliver us, we beseech You, from all sin, and save us to eternal life.

May this evening be one of preparation for the coming Sunday. Grant us rest that we may be ready for the day's duties and worship. Then turn our thoughts and affections toward Sunday worship, that we may be in the Spirit on the Lord's day. Give holy thoughts to all who are preparing to speak the words of life to Your people. Warm their hearts with Your love, and hold them near to You, that they may come from the very secret of Your presence to stand and speak for You before men. We ask all in the name of our Redeemer. Amen.

Do You Know the Spirit You Have?
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

The quality of the knowledge you have is a guarantee of your success in life. As a child of God, do you know the kind of spirit you have? The opening scripture throws light on the kind of spirit you have—it says God has not given you the spirit of fear but of power, love, and sound mind, meaning that God has given you the spirit of power, and of love, and of sound judgment and personal discipline (Acts 2:1–4). Beloved, this knowledge should cause you to be excited because you have a weapon to confront any fear, trouble, or challenge that is waging war against you (2 Corinthians 10:4). You have the power or ability to defeat every form of fear, anxiety, trouble, or challenge in your life; you have love to extend to God and humanity so that all can experience the true love of Christ in you. And you have a sound mind or sound judgment to make good decisions that will benefit you and the people in your world or sphere of contact. Thus, use what God has given you to reign in every aspect of your life. Praise the Lord! Be an overcomer!

Prayer Point: Dear Abba Father, thank You for giving me the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. I use this spirit to overcome every form of fear, anxiety, trouble, or challenge in my life. I use it also to extend kindness to people, especially the needy, and make the right decisions that will benefit everyone in my sphere of contact in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Matthew 28:18-20
King James Version

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

1 Corinthians 2:6-13
King James Version

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Have the “I Can Do” Mentality!
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

Having the “I can do” mentality makes all things possible. Apostle Paul, in his walk with God, came to know that he could do all things because Jesus Christ gave him the strength (John 15:5). This knowledge became his consciousness, and he developed the “I can do” mentality. Dear beloved, what challenges are you faced with? If you can develop the “I can do” mentality, you will overcome them. Are you a student facing challenges with some of your courses? Do you find it difficult to make time for the relevant things in life? Is there a particular sin that keeps putting you down? Personalize the opening scripture and say to yourself, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Continue saying it in faith, and the power of God will fill you up to give you the victory over that challenge. Beloved, remember that in the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, what you say in faith is what you will receive (Mark 11:22–24). Therefore, keep searching for scriptures that minister to your challenges or needs, and keep declaring them boldly in faith, and you will be empowered to overcome all of them. Hallelujah! Glory to God!

Prayer Point: My gracious Father, thank You for opening my eyes to the “I can do” mentality. I put it to work immediately to make all things possible for myself because I believe in Your Word. Please let me never forget this so that I can keep triumphing over all life’s challenges in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Morning Prayer

O God, as the morning has risen upon us, may the Sun of righteousness also rise upon us. Chase away the shadows of darkness from us, and may we be light in the Lord. Enable us to put off all the works of darkness, whatever belongs to the old evil nature, and to put on the garments of light, doing the works of the day and not of the night. May our light shine before men, that seeing us, they may glorify You.

We desire to grow in grace. As the deer pants after the water-brooks, so our souls long after You. Our souls thirst for God, for the living God. Nothing else will satisfy them. This world has in it nothing to meet the needs of our immortal spiritual natures. Let us not try to feed ourselves on that which is not bread — but may we learn to bring all our needs to You who alone can satisfy them.

We come to You to begin the day — that we may have Your blessing upon it. Nothing is complete without You. As the flowers need the dew and the sunshine to make them fragrant — so do our lives need Your blessing to make them truly happy. Lay Your hand upon our heads as we bow before You. Direct our feet in all the day's paths. We want to carry out Your plan, not our own. Order our steps in Your word. Give us our work as we go on. Help us to be truthful, honest, and diligent in all our words and conduct. Prosper us in all our undertakings, unless they are wrong. Defeat whatever we undertake that is not agreeable to Your will.

We go out now in our Savior's name, and we ask You to take us and use us to do Your will and to bless others. We ask all for Jesus' sake. Amen.

Evening Prayer

O Lord, give Your blessing to us this evening. Let Your face shine upon us, and be gracious unto us. Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, and give us peace. May our sins be forgiven. May our errors be corrected. May the work of our hands be blessed. May the influence of our lives upon others be sanctified.

We can never have this day again to amend anything in it, to recall that which is evil, or to add that which is lacking. So we leave it with You, asking for Your blessing upon it.

We remember the community around us, asking that You would send Your blessing upon all its homes. Remember all the children, and keep them in their tender years; carry all these in Your bosom, Good Shepherd. Remember all the young people amid the world's temptations and attractions. Keep them, and may they become noble men and women. Remember the sick, the old, the sorrowing, and the poor, and have pity upon the unsaved.

We pray for our country. Remember those who rule over us, and give them wisdom to rule in Your fear, and for You. Bless all our institutions. May Your grace more and more rule in them, making them influences for good in the world. Keep Your protection around those who go upon the seas and those who work amid dangers.

We pray for Your church. Bless its ministers, and may they be faithful and earnest. Bless all its members, and may they be true in all their life before men. May their light so shine, that all who see them shall be led to believe in the power of Jesus. Hear us, bless us, and keep us through the night. We ask in Jesus' precious name. Amen.

God Is Ready to Build You Up!
“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” Acts 20:32 (KJV)

Knowing that God is ready to build you up prompts you to take advantage of His Word and His grace. Beloved, God is always ready to give His children the best of everything. No wonder Jesus Christ once said, “If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him” (Luke 11:13). Beloved, for God to give you the inheritance you need, He will, first of all, build you up with His Word. If you are built up with the Word of God, then you will see the relevance of the inheritance in your life. You will also know how to protect that inheritance so that you don’t lose it. Dear beloved, build up yourself with the Holy Scriptures so that you can be equipped with enough grace to receive as many inheritances as possible (Matthew 7:25). Some of the inheritances we need to enjoy here on earth are eternal life, long life, good marriage, wisdom, wealth, riches, divine health, good career or job, joy, and good education. The ones in heaven for us are eternal life, crowns, thrones, and fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ and His holy saints. Hallelujah! Be an overcomer!

Prayer Point: My dear heavenly Father, thank You for opening my eyes to the numerous inheritances available for me in Your Kingdom. I avail myself to You unconditionally. Please build me up with Your Word in order to use grace effectively and efficiently. I submit myself to the leading of Your Spirit so that I can have all the inheritances that will enable me to bless many lives on earth in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Jesus Has Given Us His Assurance!
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV)

Jesus Christ is so loving that He never hides the truth from us. He is truly the light of the world (John 8:12). He has given all the assurance we need to encourage us to pray; He said we are free to use the three principles of prayer to get answers from God. Beloved, the three principles are asking, seeking, and knocking. He said when we ask in faith using His Word, we will receive; when we seek according to His will, we will find; and when we knock with determination, the door will be opened for us. Therefore, as a child of God, when you pray, let these principles be in your prayer. Beloved, when you ask and it appears that you are not receiving, move from that level to seeking and you will receive. If you don’t receive at the level of seeking, move to the level of knocking and you will receive. Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest, and He will make sure our prayers are answered (Hebrews 4:14). Hallelujah!

Prayer Point: My dear Lord Jesus, thank You for teaching me about the principles or levels of prayer. I put these principles or levels to work to find answers to all my requests. I also pray for my brethren to come to this knowledge so that all their prayers can be answered as well. Amen!
