Thanks to our supporters, The Salvation Army Northern Division is able to help people in Minnesota and North Dakota who face challenges large and small … even as small as securing a birthday cake.

Such was the case when a single mother came to one of our food shelves. She appeared to be very sad, and when our food shelf worker asked her why, the mother explained that she couldn’t afford to buy a cake for her daughter’s birthday today.

After hearing this news, the worker headed to a back room and dug through a pallet of donations received that morning from a local grocery store. The worker then discovered a big, beautiful birthday cake with the theme, “Happy Birthday, Princess!”

The worker gave the cake to the mother and she was overwhelmed with joy and happiness. She couldn’t wait to go home and celebrate with her daughter.

A look back at a meaningful month across The Salvation Army Northern Division.

Throughout May, we shared stories of lives changed through God’s grace, celebrated the volunteers and supporters who make this mission possible, and continued investing in the next generation through Christ-centered music programs.

We have had some exciting things happening with our wonderful people here at Parkview Corps! Jon Anderson was chosen to share his story of change, faith and hope with the greater Salvation Army Family and beyond! Major Clara was able to share the vision and purpose of this ministry here at Parkview! Joanna was honored and given the Exemplary Individual Award at our volunteers banquet! Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!

Last night we gathered to celebrate the incredible volunteers who help carry out the mission of The Salvation Army Northern Division.
Across Minnesota and North Dakota, we are supported by more than 22,000 volunteers — and we truly couldn’t do what we do without them. From food programs and youth work to bell ringing and beyond, their impact is felt every day.
We also took time to honor our Volunteers of the Year and hear powerful stories from those serving in our communities.
To every volunteer: Thank you for your time, your heart, and your commitment.
