We paint murals, take care of gardens and work for a better community.

Check it out, all ye Young Leaders!

Semilla's Young Leaders program is still looking for a few more 11-15 yr. olds. to start on June 27. Youth participants will get to work with these two amazing teachers and artists Angela Barerra and Sarah Schulz. During the school year, Angela works in Minneapolis Public Schools. Sarah Schulz works as a 5th grade teacher in St. Paul during the school year. Youth are paid stipends for their participation in learning to be a leader, creating positive change, and planting seeds of hope in the Phillips neighborhood using art. Beloved Phillips Community-Call for submissions for the 7th Edition of The Phoenix of Phillips literary magazine. Spread the word!

PHOTO CONTEST (with cash prizes) FOR YOUTH, TOO!

The 7th edition of “The Phoenix of Phillips” literary magazine launches in November, 2020. A section will be devoted to poems and essays by children and youth. One division for children ages 7 to 12, and one for teens 13 to 18. Cash prizes:
Two first prizes: $40 and publication
Two second prizes: $25 and publication
Two third prizes: $15 and publication

The Theme is: “Struggle and Hope”. What do we struggle with? What changes do you want to see in our world? What are you willing to do?

Entries will be judged by published authors in the Twin Cities area. All entries considered for publication. Please put your name and age on each poem submitted. Send your writing October 25 to: [email protected]

Our Youth Photography Project is up at The Egg and I Restaurant 2828 Lyndale Ave S. in Minneapolis! We got the word a few days ago, and put together a retrospective of youth photos from the past 12 years, including new ones from Summer 2019. “Phillips: God’s Backyard” will be up for a few week...
