The ASI Lilla Spelmanslag is a youth fiddle/cello folk music group made up of young musicians ages 8 through 18, based at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. We learn traditional Swedish folk music, for example walzes, schottis, and polskas. We welcome new members. In 2022 we traveled to Sweden to connect with three youth folk music groups in three different parts of Sweden and attended a folk music festival and a fiddle camp. We learn by ear with the help of rehearsals and on-line recordings. The ASI Lilla Spelmanslag is planning on traveling to Sweden in 2027 to meet other youth folk musicians and make music together.

Their teacher Ingela Eilert Haaland (she/her) is from Lund, Sweden, and works as a Swedish instructor at the University of Minnesota.

Procession to the Capitol.

We participated in this procession - singing, marching, and proclaiming who we are as Christians - people who believe in feeding the hungry, welcoming the immigrant, and remembering that oppression against any of us is oppression and harm against all of us.

"Today, a federal district court ruled that the United States government must permit faith leaders to offer pastoral care to individuals held by ICE at the Whipple Federal Building. The ruling comes after Groundwork Legal and Saul Ewing filed a lawsuit against the government, on behalf of faith leaders, for violating the First Amendment and Religious Freedom Restoration Act by denying faith leaders the ability to provide pastoral care to people in custody at the Whipple Federal Building."

🌿 Palm Sunday was a protest. And this , Christians nationwide are taking action to reclaim our faith.

We are called to love our neighbors, feed the hungry, care for the sick, welcome the stranger, & speak the truth.

But some politicians are twisting our faith in order to divide and distract us — while showering billionaires with more tax breaks.

We refuse to let them.

It's what Jesus preached. It's what Alex Pretti and Renee Good proclaimed through their actions of helping their neighbors. It's what I witnessed on Saturday at 26th and Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis as people gathered to remember Alex, protest state-sponsored terrorism, and demand justice for our immigrant neighbors and all people who are experiencing unlawful violence and violations of constitutional rights. It's what I felt that night when neighbors lit candles in the evening , and my family watched the light shine in the darkness. And in Sunday's scripture in Christian churches across the US, it's the fundamentals of what Jesus asks of Christians when he says "Follow me."
