We are proud to stand with our community and serve as a safe space for the Soul of the Southside Juneteenth Festival this Friday.

Friday, June 19, marks Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The church office will be closed so our pastors and staff can spend time with their families and participate in community events, and we will return to the office on Monday.

While the office is closed, organizers asked Holy Trinity to be a safe gathering place for the festival from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. if needed. This free annual celebration creates a joyful, visible Black space in South Minneapolis, bringing together artists, families, neighbors, and small businesses to celebrate Black creativity, culture, and community.

Our very own Pastor Ingrid Arneson Rasmussen is on the cover of the Summer 2026 issue of Living Lutheran. The feature article highlights her arrest this past January, when she was handcuffed alongside about 100 other clergy members for kneeling in the road at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. The demonstration protested U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics and a site used to dispatch asylum-seekers and immigrants to detention centers during Operation Metro Surge.

The story also shines a light on the collective effort of our church. During the height of the crisis, Holy Trinity members stepped up in many ways, and the church spent its entire pastoral discretionary fund in just the first 14 days of the year to respond to communal and individual crises.

As Pastor Ingrid notes in the interview, we are not born with courage; we learn it in the context of community. She expressed her great delight in being placed in a congregation, neighborhood, and city that is passionate about acting collectively for the common good, calling it the Spirit's call to us in this particular time.

We are still filled with joy from our Easter celebration in April.

It was wonderful to see so many of you gathered in the pews. From the choir singing to the kids joining in and the crew running the soundboard, everyone played a part in making the morning meaningful. We love being a community together.

Dear Holy Trinity Community,

I’m delighted to share some exciting news: Sulia Altenberg will be joining the Holy Trinity staff as our new full-time Storytelling Coordinator. Sulia will coordinate the day-to-day work of Our Deepest Belonging, our Lilly Endowment-funded storytelling initiative, and support Holy Trinity communications. She’ll work closely with Allison Johnson Heist, our contract project director for the initiative. Her first day with us will be this Friday, June 12.

Sulia stood out throughout the interview process as someone who knows how to get things moving. She has a gift for taking big ideas and turning them into stories, projects, and communications that bring people together. Those who have worked with Sulia consistently speak about the energy, joy, and warmth she brings to every project.

Sulia lives in South Minneapolis with her spouse and is deeply engaged in community life. In recent months, she organized rent relief efforts in the Powderhorn neighborhood following Operation Metro Surge. She is pursuing graduate studies in Civic Engagement at the University of Minnesota and previously worked in advocacy at the American Academy of Neurology.
