Today our cathedral was alive with the fire of the Spirit. On this Pentecost Sunday, we celebrated baptisms, welcomed newcomers into our community, and rejoiced as we announced our Dean‑elect, a moment filled with gratitude and anticipation for the future of Saint Mark’s.

We also offered our heartfelt thanks to Provost Tim as he begins his next chapter. Many have known him since he was “a young man in short pants,” and many have only just begun to experience his wisdom and warmth. Today we blessed him, celebrated him, and sent him forward wrapped in our prayers.

Another milestone: we joyfully blessed our new Archives space; a home for the stories, artifacts, and memories that shape who we are and who we are becoming.

From the waters of baptism to the welcome of new faces, from honoring faithful leadership to opening a space dedicated to our shared history, today was a tapestry of Spirit‑filled moments. A day of joy. A day of hope. A day that reminds us how alive and vibrant this community truly is.

Come, Holy Spirit.
Come, future full of promise.

What a beautiful weekend and a grace‑filled end to our Holy Week festivities.

Throughout these sacred days, we welcomed old friends home and met new ones who blessed us with their presence. We celebrated our dear friend Terry, giving thanks for his many years of faithful service and sending him into retirement with love and gratitude. We were also honored to have the Bishop with us as we proclaimed the hope and joy of our Risen Lord.

We cannot thank our staff and volunteers enough for all they did to create one of the most beautiful and memorable Holy Weeks in recent years. Their dedication, creativity, and hospitality made every service possible.

And a special thank‑you to all of you for your patience and support as we navigated the roofing project and parking lot disruptions throughout Holy Week and beyond.

Here is a brief snapshot of what it took to bring Holy Week to life at the Cathedral:

Dozens of volunteers offering countless hours through Altar Guild, Ushering, Hospitality, Lectors, Acolytes, Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors, Youth, Children’s Chapel, and Decorating

1,500 printed bulletins

1,400 service attendees

1,000 palms

550 hours from our 11 paid and non‑stipendiary staff

Hundreds of hours of beautiful music from our 32 Cathedral Choir members and Canon Musician

250 personal candles for the Vigil

80 flowers to adorn the Nave

Dozens of candles at the prayer station and altar

80 guests at the Maundy Thursday shared meal

170 bottles of oil

75 clergy renewing their vows

15 services in 8 days

Join us this evening for the Great Vigil of Easter at 8:30 p.m. — in person or online.

This ancient and beloved liturgy is the heart of the Christian year: a journey from darkness to light, from death to resurrection, from silence to alleluia. Together we will kindle the new fire, hear the great stories of salvation, renew our baptismal vows, and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter.

All are welcome as we gather to proclaim the hope and joy of the Resurrection.

Today, we gathered in solemn remembrance of Good Friday, standing at the foot of the cross and holding space for the depth of Christ’s love and sacrifice. This day invites us into silence, reflection, and the mystery of God’s redeeming grace.

We hope you will join us tonight at 7:30 p.m. — in person or online — for Music for Good Friday, featuring The Crucifixion by John Stainer, performed by the Saint Mark’s Cathedral Choir under the direction of Raymond Johnston.

This powerful musical meditation offers a profound way to enter the heart of the Triduum.

All are welcome as we continue this sacred journey together.

Don’t forget to join us tonight — in person or online — for our Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m.

On this holy night, we remember the evening before Jesus’ crucifixion, when he knelt to wash the feet of his disciples and shared with them the meal that became Holy Communion.

This solemn and tender liturgy invites us into Christ’s call to love one another as he loves us. The service includes foot washing and the stripping of the altar, drawing us deeper into the mystery of the Triduum.

All are welcome as we enter these sacred days together.

Tonight, we gathered in the deepening shadows for the Service of Tenebrae, letting scripture, silence, and song draw us into the mystery of these sacred days. It was a powerful pause in our Holy Week journey.

As we continue walking toward the Triduum,
we invite you to join us tomorrow for Maundy Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
This solemn and tender service includes foot washing, the stripping of the altar, and the call to love one another as Christ loves us.

All are welcome — in person or via livestream — as we enter this holy night together.
