Silent Walk for Justice
Hosted by Twin Cities Buddhist Communities
All Are Welcome Sunday, February 8th, 3-4:30pm
Gather at Powderhorn Park West Playground

All are welcome to join this mindful walk in solidarity with those harmed by ICE, and to bear witness to all who have been harmed by state violence. There will be no speeches. After we gather we will walk to the sound of bells through the neighborhood to be fully present and to manifest compassion. As we walk, we invite you to rest your attention on your feet on the ground, your breath, the people and places around you, and all that you see and hear. Signs and all religious garments are welcome.

A new class starts on November 18 at the Minneapolis Shambhala Center called "Five Skandhas and Three Yanas" with teacher Jeff Sussna. The first thing the Buddha taught was the five skandhas, which are the basis for the Four Noble Truths. The five skandhas are common to all schools of Buddhism. If you would like to learn more about them, please register soon.

We welcome teacher Jeff Sussna to the Minneapolis Shambhala Center for a six week class on the Five Skandas and Three Yanas. The class begins on Tuesday, November 18.

Pema Chödrön states in her book Start Where You Are communication “should be done with the intention of speaking so that another person can hear you, rather than using words that cause the barriers to go up and the ears to close.” (Chapter 19 "Communicate with Heart").

Skillful communication isn't always straightforward and sometimes the message gets lost when it is sent with underlying aggression. In the chapter, Pema points out communication is best done when compassion and consideration for the other person is a high priority.

In both the Buddhist and Shambhala teachings we hear of “dark ages” and “degenerate times” as a description of the world we are living in now. What did the lineage teachers want to tell us?  Were they condemning and criticizing modern times? Or, was this language used to point to the need f...
