Compassionate Ocean Zen Center Compassionate Ocean Zen Center is dedicated to the central practice of awakening.

The activities of the Center cultivate awareness of the essential beauty and dignity of life coming from full engagement with life-as-it-is. Compassionate Ocean Zen Center is named after Jikai Dainin Katagiri Roshi, the root teacher of Joen Snyder O'Neal and Michael O'Neal. Jikai, Compassionate Ocean, refers to reality itself, which always holds us and bathes us with compassion. Even though we may

not be aware of it, even though we may be experiencing a lot of suffering, still we are held in the great ocean of Buddha's compassion. The Center offers programs in Zen practice and study as well as programs in mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Genpo Michael O'Neil attended Anthony Ray Hintons presentation, Reflections on Justice and Mercy, at St. Thomas University.
Afterwards Genpo was able to meet and talk with him for a few minutes. He is very grateful for that opportunity.

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to a successful annual meeting. As Joen said "Kalyāṇamitra, which means spiritual friendship, is what our sangha is all about."
