Labor Day, observed on the first Monday of September, has been a federal holiday since 1894. It began as a tribute to the American labor movement, honoring the social and economic contributions workers have made to the strength and prosperity of the country. For many families, it also marks the unofficial end of summer — a weekend for rest, travel, and time together before the pace of fall picks back up.
In keeping with this tradition of rest, Epworth will not hold in-person worship this Labor Day weekend. We encourage everyone to use this time to relax, reconnect with loved ones, and take a break from the usual routine — including a Sunday off from the gathered congregation.
If you'd still like a moment of reflection over the weekend, consider:
- Making time to pray or meditate with Seth's playing
- Reading a favorite scripture passage or devotional at home
- Spending quiet time in prayer or gratitude for the work you do
- Checking in with a church family member, friend or neighbor you haven't seen in a while
