Minnesota Hillel

Minnesota Hillel Inspire every student to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning & Israel.

Since 1940, Hillel at the University of Minnesota has been a home to the Jewish Students on campus, empowering them to build a positive sense of Jewish identity. Hillel also serves as a Jewish resource for university students of all faiths and backgrounds. Hillel's mission is to establish a friendly and welcoming environment where students from different backgrounds can explore Jewish heritage, cu

lture, and tradition. With a very active student board guiding its programming, Hillel consistently strives to bring students together in a community centered on Jewish life, providing the students of the university a safe, open, and comfortable place to study, meet friends, network, discuss, and learn about Judaism.

Welcome to Campus! Minnesota Hillel kicked off move-in with coffee, bagels, and a chance for students and families to take a break, meet new friends, and connect with the Hillel community. Met Your Spouse @ Hillel Monday

Meet Gayle & Bob Werner 💙

Our series celebrates alumni across generations who found lasting Jewish connection, community, and partnership through Minnesota Hillel. This week, we're featuring Gayle & Bob, whose story began over bag lunches in 1976. What started as casual lunches with friends turned into a marriage that has now spanned more than 47 years!

__

We met over bag lunches in the downstairs Hillel café in 1976, where a small group of friends gathered regularly. As we got to know each other, we started meeting up at Sunday night Israeli dancing at Hillel. Before long, we were dating, and by the end of the year, we were engaged.

We waited to marry until after graduation, with Gayle earning her Marketing degree from the University of Minnesota Business School and Bob completing his Electrical Engineering degree. We married in 1979, right after graduation.

Today, after 47 years of marriage, raising two sons, and careers spanning more than four decades, we're happily retired and enjoying life together in Southwest Florida.

Thank you, Minnesota Hillel, for bringing us together. 💙

Meet our new Israel Fellow, Shahar!

Shahar is from Northern Israel and recently graduated from Tel Hai College with a degree in Psychology. Growing up right on Israel’s northern border, she couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to trade one border for another and become the new Israel Fellow at Minnesota Hillel.

Driven by a genuine curiosity about human nature and a love for hearing people's stories, Shahar is incredibly excited to connect with the students, build meaningful relationships, and create a warm, welcoming community, even if the Minnesota winter demands quite a few extra layers.

She is thrilled to begin her journey as an Israel Fellow, grow alongside the amazing community here, and ensure that every student feels an instant sense of belonging.

When she isn’t busy talking with every breathing creature alive, you can find her in the kitchen experimenting with complex recipes, putting her recent bakery experience to good use, or trying and likely failing to keep her houseplants alive. She is an absolute Mamma Mia! enthusiast, a lover of good music, and will never, ever say no to hot, fresh falafel.
