The age we live in is evil, and full of sin, sinners and evil people. All of the signs point to us being extremely close to or in the end times.

Yet, we aren't even close to suffering like first-century believers did.

Acts depicts instances of early Christian persecution by the Sanhedrin, the Jewish religious court at the time.

On the other hand, Rome mastered the"art" of torture.

Of Jesus’s 11 disciples (not counting Judas) Peter, Simon the Zealot, Phillip, Jude the brother of James, and Andrew were all crucified. Peter requested to be crucified upside down, a request the Romans were only too happy to grant. Andrew’s cross was in the shape of an X.

Top 10 ways Rome disposed of Christians:

1. Cooked to death
2. Dragged to death
3. Skinned alive
4. Sewn into animal skins and eaten by dogs
5. Starved to death
6. Boiled to death
7. Thin cords were passed through holes and wrapped around the limbs, then drawn so tightly that they cut through the victim’s flesh to the bones. The process was repeated as long as necessary.
8. Ground to death in a mill
9. Broken on a wheel
10. Having their guts eaten by pigs

Yet, through all this, there was no call for civil unrest, no running for political office to change the world, no turning their backs on Christ, their Savior, for those who believed.

They were called Christians because they were Christ-like, Christ-followers. (Acts 11:26)

During all of this unspeakable horror and suffering, they prayed for their persecutors. (Ex Stephen, 1st recorded martyr)

During this time, the New Testament authors wrote, among other things, obviously:

Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

II Timothy 2:3
“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

I Peter 4:16-19
¹⁶ Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
¹⁷ For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
¹⁸ And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
¹⁹ Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Revelation 2:10
“Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

• Keep your mind focused on the right things to make it through the tribulations.

• Endure

• Be testimony and glorify God through everything.

• Be faithful and receive your crown

II Timothy 2:24-26
²⁴ And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
²⁵ In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
²⁶ And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

The fruit of the Spirit does not establish itself in us by chance, and if we do not discern states (particular conditions that someone is in at a specific time) of grace, and choose them, and in our thoughts nourish them, they never become fixed in our spirit and behavior.

Every advancement in grace must first be comprehended, then we must have a prayerful resolve to attain it.

Not many people are willing to undergo the suffering out of which complete gentleness comes. We must die to self before we can become gentle, and, it is a real breaking and crushing of self, which wrings the heart and conquers the mind.

Our human nature has not been brought into submission, and our heart has not throbbed with the lonely, agonizing sighs of Jesus in Gethsemane. And, not having experienced the humility, agony and brokenness, there cannot be that gentle, peaceful, victorious, overflowing, triumphant life that flows like a river from an empty tomb.

As Christians, each of us are servants of the Lord, and should desire to live displaying the fruit of the Spirit as described in verse 24 and the beginning of 25.

Yet, because of our sin nature, we all need to be open to spiritual instruction so that we may grow closer to Christ, and grow in grace and in spiritual wisdom. (verses 25-26)

It isn't always easy to instruct someone, and it isn't usually easy to be instructed. When giving instruction, we are also reminded:

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
— Colossians 4:6

And, when receiving instruction, we are reminded:

“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”
— Proverbs 4:13

Lord, help me today to live the fruit of the Spirit. Help people not to see me, but Christ me. Help me to accept spiritual instruction so that I may continue to grow in You.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for enduring physical suffering and offering Yourself as my sacrifice. Thank you that I serve a risen Savior!

If Satan reminds you of your past, turn around and remind him of his future.

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

Like many of you reading this, yesterday, Memorial Day, I thought about the sacrifices that so many Americans made who have served in the US military.

I have family members and friends who served, or are serving. Some have lost their lives in service to this country. Each of them knowingly put their life at risk not only for loved ones, but also for people they didn't even know.

My citizenship is not of this world, it is "out of this world". I am a citizen of the New Jerusalem.

¹³ ... and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
¹⁴ For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
¹⁵ And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
-- Hebrews 11:13-16

“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;”
— Ephesians 2:19

Ultimately, all freedom originates from the Creator of the universe, God. Jesus Christ sacrificed His life to offer us TOTAL FREEDOM.

(Satan, the Father of Lies, likes us to believe that God is controlling.) God, however, is the most uncontrolling person there will ever be; God created us with free-willl choice.

The U.S. military uses two phrases that have stuck in my mind.

The first phrase is "blood brothers":

Christians are "blood brothers" under the blood of Jesus Christ.
Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines this term
two ways:
1. a brother by birth
2. persons pledged to mutual loyalty by use of blood

Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross ... so, those who accept Him become "blood brothers" in mutual loyalty to Christ because of the shed blood. Because of our new birth, salvation, we also become "blood brothers" due to our spiritual, second, birth.

The second phase is "we stood the watch".

It is defined as "to stand in a position and guard or watch someone or something in order to look for possible danger, threats, etc."

It's a naval term used in the poem below:

The Watch

For twenty years,
This sailor has stood the watch
While some of us were in our bunks at night,
This sailor stood the watch
While some of us were in school learning our trade,
This shipmate stood the watch
Yes . . . even before some of us were born into this world,
This shipmate stood the watch
In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen
brewing on the horizon of history,
This shipmate stood the watch
Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there,
Needing his guidance and help,
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times,
But he still stood the watch
He stood the watch for twenty years,
He stood the watch so that we, our families,
And our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety,
Each and every night,
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch
Today we are here to say:
"Shipmate . . . the watch stands relieved.
Relieved by those YOU have trained, guided, and lead
Shipmate you stand relieved . . . we have the watch!"
"Boatswain . . . Standby to pipe the side . . . Shipmate's going Ashore!"

Ephesians 6:11-17 likens the Christian life to that of a soldier. As the men and women of the US military are prepared to fight physically, Christians are called to fight spiritually.

I am very thankful for the military personnel who have given their lives in service to this country! John 15:13 states"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Each person in the armed forces is following the example set by the first and foremost freedom fighter, Jesus Christ. His sacrifice is stated so well in Romans 5:7-9
"For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

I am thankful the Lord Jesus Christ voluntary, sacrificially gave His life for me!

As a soldier in Christ's army, I pledge my allegiance to Him. Each morning, I want to dress in the whole armor of God before entering the spiritual battlefield.

Someday, my service in God's military will end and I will stand before my commander-in- chief. At that point, it is my desire to hear Him say, "You stood the watch. Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

If you don't have freedom in Christ, you aren't really free. If you don't have freedom in Christ, you can.
I will be happy to have you contact me to find out how.
Accept the sacrifice of God that gives true freedom.

II Timothy 1:7-10 (KJV)

⁷ For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
⁸ Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
⁹ Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
¹⁰ But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

I have been thinking about Resurrection Day. Hopefully, you celebrated by remembering the sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf. And, the power by which he beat death and rose from the grave.

We can live in His resurrection power every day of our lives if we allow Him to be in control of everything we think, say and do. We cannot achieve anything worthwhile in and of ourselves. Jesus Christ changes us from the inside out.

How do I know this?
I have the testimony of the changed lives of the 11 disciples.

After the resurrection of Jesus Christ and His return to Heaven, the disciples didn't flee to different parts of the world, they banded together as one. They were unified in their change. Acts 2 recounts the powerful change that Jesus Christ made in each of their lives.

Peter was an impetuous man. When God changed his life, He didn't change Peter's personality. Peter was still the first one to stand up. But, this time it wasn't to deny Christ (Matthew 26:69-75) or to question Him.
Peter stood and gave one of the most powerful messages ever recorded.
Peter presented a very clear full Gospel message.

I am asking you to read and study the whole chapter. Some highlighted verses, and my thoughts as I read them:

It was not possible that death could win over Jesus Christ! It's Resurrection power!

²⁴ Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

That same resurrection power is a gift to everyone who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ. That same power gives me hope. Not an "I wish hope" but a solid
"I know hope". I am 100% sure that when Jesus Christ decides it's my time to go home, I will be with Him.
There was absolutely nothing I needed to do for this hope. Jesus Christ paid 100% of my penalty, covered my sin and made the choice to forget it existed. For a gift this wonderful, I would be a horrible friend to not tell you about it.

²⁶ Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

The 11 disciples were a testimony to the change that Jesus Christ could make for the better in their lives. There are numerous other examples in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. There are numerous examples throughout the pages of history of people who accepted the free offer of Jesus Christ and whose lives were changed.

My most favorite example I have that I can give you is myself. From the time I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, He's changed my life. He's given me the fruit of the Spirit, which includes peace and joy.

Jesus Christ changed me from the inside out just like he did each of the 11 disciples. Jesus Christ gave me the same resurrection power and I accepted the Holy Ghost into my heart and into my life. If I am going to live a Christ-centered life, that means I'm going to hate sin like Jesus Christ does, love the sinner like Jesus Christ does and be concerned with only one mission: to spread the good news of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person that comes into my life.
Am I perfect at doing it? No, I'm human. But is it my heart's desire? Yes.

This request is for every single one of you who read this.l --

If you are unsure whether or not you know Jesus Christ is your own personal Savior. If you do not know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can spend eternity with Him. If you believe that you must work your way to Heaven. Please understand that I can answer all of these questions by showing you what Jesus Christ has told us in His own words.

For those of you who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, there is a message for you also.
Just as you could not work your way to Heaven, you cannot work your way through sanctification.
The works that we do are to be done with the right heart attitude and thankfulness and gratefulness to Jesus Christ. The Bible talks about works being burnt,
I Corinthians 3. This isn't the works of the unsaved, this is the works of Christians who did things for the wrong reason. Just think about it. If you serve the Lord for 50 years, but you do it with the wrong attitude, you will see everything you do go up in a large bonfire. What good does it do to do works just so everyone else thinks you're a great christian? You may fool everyone else, you may fool yourself, but there's no fooling Jesus Christ. I know I'm going to have a bonfire, but I would like it to be rather small.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹³ Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

¹⁵ If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Just because you're a Christian, doesn't mean you're living a victorious Christian life. There is a way to have resurrection power, to be filled with Holy Ghost, but it's not through your own works, it's through the free gift of Jesus Christ.

Please, if you have any questions, don't procrastinate. You can reach me at 763-439-7880. I don't want to give you my opinion, that doesn't matter. I want to show you from the Word of God what Jesus Christ says. That's all that matters!

Yesterday, Friday, January
22nd at 8:45pm marked Mom, Genevieve DeWall's, 5th anniversary in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Last night I watched my nephew, Micah Villanueva's, wedding ceremony that took place January 12th.

The ceremony included a charge to the bride and groom. They were reminded that the Bible refers to Christians as the bride of Christ.
The preacher exhorted them to think of their wedding ceremony as the rehearsal for their wedding to Jesus Christ.

I was reminded of the following Bible verses:

"Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Revelation 19:7-9 (KJV)

As a believer, a Christian, I have been spoken for. I am engaged, and the engagement can never be broken.
I do not know the wedding date, only my groom knows.

My gown is custom made, and priceless. I could never purchase it; it was purchased for me with the blood of my groom. He is perfect ... He loves me unconditionally, He provides everything I need and He is my best friend!

You are invited to the marriage supper. In fact the perfect bridegroom has already proposed to you.

Will you accept His proposal?
