Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church

Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church A radically inclusive community. Una comunidad radicalmente inclusiva. Founded in 1929, NHLC has been serving our Minneapolis neighborhood for over 90 years.

Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church welcomes God's children from all communities to worship, study, and play. Our programs provide opportunities for neighborhood fellowship and ministry, for teaching and learning, for music and prayer. Our mission, to be a community of the cross called to confess hope in action, shapes how we worship and reminds us to carry out the work of God in all that we do. More

than just a place of worship, Nokomis Heights is a family. With educational opportunities for all ages every Sunday, community meals throughout the year, and constant opportunities to volunteer within and beyond our walls, NHLC is committed to strengthening our community and living out the Word of God. We are a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Congregation and welcome le***an, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, their partners, and their families into full participation in the life and ministry of this congregation. Our mission partners: Trinity Lutheran, St. Peder's Lutheran, Community Emergency Service (CES), and Wapo Bible Camp.

Tomorrow we kick off our summer worship series !Vamos! | Let’s Go! with worship INSIDE. How will you experience the presence of Jesus this summer in ordinary (turned extraordinary) places? As part of our series we are going to be huddling close and reading from Spark Story Bibles. We have a cart ready to go, but if you have one at home, please bring it along. See you at 10am.

So much joy at the ordination of Pastor Hannah Sackett Lafferty on Saturday. Thanks to Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church for hosting the service, to the blessed people of Southwestern Minnesota Synod for raising up a faithful leader, and to the community that gathered to celebrate in song, word, meal, and prayer. The Holy Spirit was in the house. Pastor Hannah has a Minneapolis Area Synod call to serve in specialized ministry as a chaplain at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. - Bishop Jen

Check out the Sunday School kids lending Blanca (and Eudoro) a hand during the children’s message on Sunday. It was a team effort and many fish were caught. 🐟

Pastora Yesenia wrote some questions for reflection based on her sermon. We will share them here. If you’d like the link to Sunday’s worship and haven’t already receive it, simply drop a comment and we will send it your way.

To ponder in the coming days:

🧡At what moments in your life have you felt the difference between being treated as someone who does not belong and being fully named as a member of the family of God? What does that stir in you today?

🧡What practices, small or large, personal or communal, help you make real space for people who have historically been excluded or made invisible?

🧡What can you learn from the spontaneous and trusting spirit of Peter, who through his actions seems to say to Jesus, “I’m all in”? Where is God inviting you to respond with that same kind of commitment?

🧡How would the way we live our faith change if we leaned more into the abundance we find in God’s loving grace in Christ Jesus, through the Holy Spirit?

🧡In today’s Gospel, Jesus does not ask us to be more or do more, but to refocus our trust. What does that say to you?
What does it mean for each of us to be an extension of God’s dwelling place for our neighbor? What does a life that reflects radical welcome, shared belonging, and mutual care look like?
