Young Lutherans Welcome to YL! Will you join the conversation?

We aim to tackle tough topics like "How should Christians interact with culture?" and "What makes a good church?" Ready or not, the Church is being passed down to the next generation.

New blog post! “Lutheran Puffery” An invitation to humility.

“Since we as Lutherans have such a robust, well-developed theology, it’s tempting to talk with certainty about things we have no business talking about with absolute certainty.”

Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. I Corinthians 8:1 There’s a problem with all this knowledge. It’s ea…

Are there topics pertaining to church and culture that get you excited? The kind you lie awake at night thinking about? The kind you find yourself bringing up in conversations over and over again? The kind the church tends to oversimplify? The kind you’re not allowed to talk about? Young Lutherans is looking for guest writers who are thoughtful, nuanced, and not afraid of the status quo. While Young Lutherans is written from a Christian perspective, we also want to hear from those who have been hurt by unhealthy churches, those who have been bashed over the head with a Bible and left uncared for on the doorstep. This isn’t an opportunity to simply rant and complain, but it is an opportunity to be heard. If you’re not an expert writer, that’s okay. It’s more important that you have a story to tell and that you want healing rather than a fight. Healing for yourself, and healing for the church. If your goal is an argument or the total destruction of the church, we kindly invite you to find a different outlet. DM for details.

A little late, but it's an important topic.

In the blazing fast world of the internet, my response to this is super late, I know. The reason is I didn’t want to write this post. You might not believe me, because you’re looking at the complet…

What's your biggest fear? In our newest post, Luke talks about how many of our fears stem from a desire to be known—and how there's someone who want's to know you.

Ever since I was very young, I’ve had a fear of being misunderstood. I wasn’t very close to my grade school classmates, but I felt that if they just knew me, they would want to be my friend. This f…

As I hear the heavenly crunch of my corn-based sugar-covered breakfast cereal against my molars, I can picture myself breaking my morning fast with Jesus and his disciples on the shore of the Galil…

GGGG was a refreshing read. It’s not a theology book, though it contains some theology. It’s not a preachy, didactic come-to-Jesus story. It’s not a trite, oversimplified Gospel band-aid to “cure the gays”. This book is not even the story of God making a gay girl straight. It’s primarily the story of a girl being pursued by a God who loves her more than any woman or man ever could. And that’s a story we all need to hear.

“GOD ISN’T CALLING GAY people to be straight. You’d think He was by listening to the ways Christians try to encourage same-sex-attracted people within, or outside, their local churches.…

⇨ The media we consume dictates what we think about.
⇨ What we think about determines our values.
⇨ Our values influence the way we live.

“Live, Laugh, Love” has gone down in infamy as an example of why Christian bookstores no longer exist. People are tired of trite Christianity with it’s empty platitudes. I’d…

New Blog post! Ancient church traditions aren't the only ones done for a reason. Sometimes the older generation looks at the modern church and thinks "different=bad" Young people do the same when they look at the traditional church. We've got more in common than you might think.

When I was a teen, my preferences for church music differed greatly from that of my church. Whenever I expressed my point of view, I was usually met with the response “There are more importan…
