James 1:19 and 20

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

No doubt the text above and below these verses would probably lead to differences of opinion among Christians about how they should be applied, but lets just consider these two verses. The people of God, (the brethren), should always be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath. We as children of God have been given perfect gifts, but many times we do not use those perfect gifts as we should. I like to say, we usually imperfectly use what God perfectly gave. But notice James gives us insight on the manner we should approach when using the gifts God has given. We should first be willing to give much attention to listening with understanding and only after that understanding, carefully communicate with others about any situation that might arise. Finally, the goal is not to cause wrath or disagreement. The righteous goal should be to endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. It is needful to use our spiritual gifts as an opportunity to present the Truth to any who desires instruction in Spiritual matters, but let us use caution in the manner that we do this. The goal is not to win an argument or debate. The goal ought to be unity and not division. I do recognize there is only one truth and we must defend that truth. This may mean we end the discussion without agreement and we don't always reach our goal of unity, but let us try to use our gifts according to the rules James has set forth in these verses.

Jesus as hight priest, ever liveth to make intercession for you

Heb 7:24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Today as you live your life keep in your heart and mind that Jesus is ever making intercession for you. Yes he is our Savior and our eternal salvation is securely in Him. But even more, he is watching and making intercession constantly. The only sacrifice for this has already been made and it has perfected for ever them that are sanctified. He now sits down on the right hand of God, the transaction is completed and He is consecrated for evermore. Let us go to God by him this day, enjoy the peace He has given and recognize He has saved us to the uttermost.

Col3:22¶Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
25But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

I am guilty of missing the mark of fulfilling this commandment of the Lord. I retired from secular work about a year ago. Looking back through thirty- three years, many times I did not obey with singleness of heart and forgot that my Lord and Savior was commanding that I give my best effort in all that I do. Though this does not effect my eternal status, I did miss many blessings and received many wrongs for not fully serving the Lord in all my work. Let this be a reminder that we serve men in the flesh but at the same time we are serving our Heavenly Master in all that we do. Not just at Church time, but at work, at home, and every where we are. Praise God for his mercy.

James 1:19¶Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

It so easy to get caught up in this world and lose control of your wrath. Even if the reasons for your wrath is justified, which is often in a world filled with sin, keep in mind this simple truth from God's word; be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. This is simple but sometimes hard for sinners to put into practice. Let us love one another and so fulfill the law of Christ.

2Cor 9:6-9
6¶But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

These texts are usually used to teach that financially we should support the Church and its ministry. But in addition to that, these texts should include more than just financial good works. When we purpose in our heart to do good to others and look for ways to help others, we enrich not only them, but ourselves also. Let us sow bountifully that we might reap bountifully and give God the glory for the love He has given to us.
