It was wonderful to attend the annual conference of the Neshama Association of Jewish Chaplains and spend time in community with chaplains, leaders, and members from across the profession. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the inspiring witness of your shared work and ministry.

In the month of May, we take time to reflect and celebrate the important role that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) have played in our shared history. Here are some ways these cultures are being celebrated during the month: asianpacificheritage.gov

At the recent NACC South and Southeast Asian Networking Group meeting, member Shruti Gopal Kulkarni presented best practices for celebrating this heritage month at work: always with cultural humility but also a gentle advocacy for these cultures.

This week is National Law Enforcement Week. Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers.

We also want to take this week to honor law enforcement chaplains who provide essential spiritual care, comfort, and counseling to officers and families during crises.

To celebrate National Law Enforcement Week (May 10-16) and our chaplains who serve in this field, we are honored and grateful to welcome Bishop Freyer for a special, free virtual webinar with our community.

Drawing on more than 20 years of experience as a law enforcement chaplain, as well as many years in healthcare chaplaincy, Bishop Freyer will share his personal journey into this ministry and the moments that shaped his call.

In this webinar, he will reflect on:
• What led him to serve in law enforcement chaplaincy
• The unique challenges faced in the field
• How to minister through adversity with faith — practical guidance for those discerning this ministry
• The call for Catholics to step into and support this vital ministry

We hope you will join us for this inspiring and informative conversation as we honor those who serve and explore the important role of chaplaincy in law enforcement. This webinar will be recorded and available for viewing after the webinar.

Eligible for 1.5 Continuing Education Hours.

“Meet Fr. Frank Cancro, Circus Chaplain. In 1975, he was among the first laypersons certified by the NACC. His work in chaplaincy ultimately led him to the priesthood, where he now leads the Circus & Traveling Show Ministry, serving performers who travel throughout the United States. Fr. Frank and I met at the National Association of Deacon Directors conference, where he shared his story with me. The NACC often opens unexpected paths of service, calling forth gifts that lead to remarkable and life-giving work in the Church and beyond.”

A story shared by Anita Houghton, Director of Pastoral Care and Certification.
