✨ Epiphany invites us to look again. ✨

Not because Christmas is over—but because God’s light keeps unfolding among us.

This Sunday’s offering supports Outreach for Hope, where that light is made visible through steady, faithful care for families and neighbors.

In this short video, you’ll see one example through Hephatha’s Safe Baby Sanctuary Ministry—families learning practical fire safety, sharing a meal, laughing together, and being met with dignity and care.

Community, learning, and love showing up where it’s needed.

This is what it looks like when the church walks alongside others—not from a distance, but together.

On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor faith in action, and one of our own.

This year, Rev. Joseph Ellwanger received the Mountaintop Award at the Legacy Awards Banquet as part of the Realizing the Dream celebrations. For those of us at Hephatha Lutheran Church, this recognition carries deep meaning.

Rev. Ellwanger is not only a nationally respected civil rights leader — he is a longtime supporter, member, and part of the living history of our faith community. He worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., marched in Selma, stood against injustice in Birmingham, and later helped build a racially integrated congregation in Milwaukee. His life and ministry have consistently reflected courage, conscience, and commitment to justice grounded in faith.

His witness reminds us that the Civil Rights Movement was not only led in the streets, but sustained in churches — by people willing to show up, speak out, and stay the course.

We also acknowledge the continued work of the Realizing the Dream Committee, organized in part by University of Alabama, whose annual events honor Dr. King’s legacy and challenge each generation to carry the dream forward.

Today, we give thanks for Rev. Ellwanger’s life of service — and we recommit ourselves to realizing the dream through faith and action.

Happy New Years Eve from Hephatha!

A beautiful service today with a beautiful church family.
Grateful for worship, community, and the light that carries us into a new year. ✨

If you will head out tonight, please be safe. Make a plan.
One decision can change lives.

Sharing this important reminder from Enough is Enough ~ A Legacy for Erin — because caring for one another doesn’t end at the church doors.

🙏🚗💛
Please share and speak up.
