Matthew 17:20 (NIV) - "He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'”

The disciples had been unable to perform a miracle, and the could not understand why. Jesus tells them in this verse, that it was because of their unbelief.

As individuals, we face trials and and tough situations. However, no matter what, God is faithful to you, and to all of us. Let us take comfort in that. Let us hold on to and exhibit faith in Him and watch what He will do. Let us have faith in His will, and when we do, He may simply move the mountain, or He may give us a shovel to start digging. Either way, it will be moved.

John 10:9 (NIV) I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.

Jesus had been sharing about the way of salvation. As any preacher does, Jesus used an illustration. In this instance, Jesus spoke of the relationship between sheep and their shepherd. Sheep know the voice of their shepherd and will follow. In turn, the shepherd will lay down his life for the sheep. The shepherd of old, new the importance of not losing a single sheep from his fold. Jesus was claiming to be the one and only Good Shepherd of mankind.

As was much the case when Jesus walked the earth and is much the case today, many people reject the idea of Jesus being the Good Shepherd. Yet, He left no other option. You believe and follow Him, or you don’t. There is no in-between. He is the gate, the door, the only way to salvation, the forgiveness of sins, and eternity in Heaven. He has laid down His life for you and when you are His, you will know.

Believers are blessed to be called to do the work of the Lord. However, let us never lose sight of the reality of our salvation. It is not based on anything we may do for the kingdom. Our salvation is only through The Gate, The Door, The Good Shepherd and His work on the cross as He laid down His life for each of us. Let us rest in His pasture today, experiencing protection, peace and joy that only He, The Good Shepherd, can give.

John 8:32 (NIV) Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

The religious leaders continued their assault on Jesus. He had granted forgiveness. He had told folks not to sin. He proclaimed to be sent from above. The religious leaders couldn’t stand it, but they couldn’t get Him either. You see, Jesus Himself remained free because of the truth.

The truth spoken of in verse thirty-two not only is a reference to the truth of Jesus as the Messiah, but also a reference to the truthful teaching that He proclaimed. The person who has internalized the truth of Jesus as the Messiah and has committed to living by the teaching, as left for us in His Word, truly knows what it means to be set free. For this person, there is no more bo***ge to sin or worldly endeavors to obtain salvation.

As believers, the greatest thing we can do is to share the good news of the gospel. Our message is one of a joyous reconciliation to the One Who loves us the most. A reconciliation to the One Who paid the penalty for our sin and invites us to serve Him no matter what our past or present circumstances are. Our message, as given by God, is that a life of following and serving Jesus is truly a life of freedom. Before we can share it, we must embrace it. May each of us live, realizing the freedom of truth.

John 7:16 (NIV) Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.

Many people did not believe the message that Jesus was proclaiming, including His own brothers. More and more people began to question Him and hatred towards Him grew. He was very deliberate as to when He appeared and to whom He appeared. In chapter 7, Jesus eventually makes His way into the feast where many Jewish people were gathering. He had a bold message to share.

Jesus, in the temple, shares that His message is from the One Who sent Him. He was claiming that His teaching was from the Father, God Himself. He was contrasting Himself with the earthly rabbis who received their teaching passed down from generation to generation by man, oral traditions, and man-made laws. Jesus was speaking with authority for He knew from where His message came.

What authority are you looking to as a believer? If you want your message to have an impact for the kingdom and to stand out above the noise of the world, it must be spoken with the authority of God above. As a believer, you have an amazing source of strength to change lives. Realize that your authority comes from above and be bold, in order to see lives changed. We have been given a message to share and authority to do so. Go ahead, speak up today.

John 6:6 (NIV) "He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do."

I believe the key to chapter six is in this verse. Specifically here, Jesus is asking where to get food in order to feed the 5,000. Notice though, that Jesus already knew the answer to the question. He was simply testing the disciples. Throughout chapter six, you read references to Jesus already knowing what was going on with those He was interacting with.

He knows. Let that sink in. When we have a question on our heart and mind, Jesus already knows the answer. When we are uncertain what to do, He knows. When we are wondering why something happened, He knows. When we are unsure of what path to take, He has already mapped it out. He knows. He may just be testing you to see if you will trust in Him.

As believers, we have an opportunity to share from The Book that provides the answers, and I challenge you to take this opportunity seriously. I am not saying you don't. I am simply sharing with you what I challenge myself with each day. As we rely on God and His Word to answer our questions, let's share what we find with others, so that their questions may be answered as well. Furthermore, if you have a question, yes, He knows, and He may be testing you to see if you will trust in Him.

Serving Jesus by serving "the least of these" - Matthew 25:40

Pastor Dave's Weekly Musing - 5/12/24

John 5:24 (NIV) Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

Jesus had done another miracle and the religious leaders wanted to judge Him for it. In fact, they wanted to kill Him. What does He do? He continues to fulfill His mission of proclaiming the good news. He knew that their “judgement” would not have a lasting effect.

You know, the same is true for the believer. There are two applications here when considering “has crossed over from death to life.” First of all, when a believer has accepted Christ, the world can have no lasting judgement over the Christian. Sure, the world can make life difficult and persecute the believer, and in some countries, this leads to a physical death. However, upon the physical death, the believer is alive in Christ. The world and its judgement cannot win. Secondly, being alive in Christ is the second application. When someone accepts the finished work of Christ on the cross, the judgement of Christ which sends non-believers to an eternal Hell one day, has been arrested and that individual passes from a sure eternal death to a reality of life with God Himself. Wow!

As believers, may we always share this message. A message that one, encourages the believer to continue what God has called them to do, just like Jesus did; and secondly, a message that reinforces that the believer is secure for all of eternity in the finished work of Christ. When one can grasp these two applications, the result is well, WOW!!!

John 4:26 (NIV) Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

Jesus is talking to the woman at the well. She understands that there is a Messiah coming. Jesus proclaims that He is Him. There is no misunderstanding here or any other option as to what Jesus was claiming. He was claiming Deity. He was announcing that He is the Messiah.

I have run into people over the years who have made some wild claims. One teenager claimed to have been a secret operative in Iraq, another individual claimed to have access to all these major sporting championship games. Neither one of them were telling the truth, yet they kept proclaiming. Jesus made a wild claim, yet He was able to back His position. He showed the woman that He truly was the Messiah. He gave her a hope she never had. He continues to witness and claim His divinity throughout the chapter and even put His power on display. There can be no other message than Jesus is God Himself.

As believers, all that we do has to come back to the reality that Jesus is God. Jesus died for the sins of all of mankind, conquered death, and is alive today. Jesus is the Messiah, there can be no other option, there is no other option. May people hear what we have to say and want to know more about Jesus. Let us make the same claim about Him, that He did about Himself.

JMeg Update. Thanks to a generous donor, the needed booster seat for a 5-year old was covered with additional funds for further ministry. A life was changed because of this gift.

Meg Ministries is in need of a car booster seat for a 5-year old. This needs to be new. Is anyone able to purchase and donate? Other option is to donate funds to JMeg Ministries via the link below and note booster seat. JMeg would then go purchase the seat. Message me if you are able to meet this need. If donating funds, looking at $35. JMeg would make up the difference if needed. If excess funds remain, they would go towards further ministry opportunities. - Pastor Dave
