Pastor Dave's Weekly Musing - 6/30/24
John 10:9 (NIV) I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.
Jesus had been sharing about the way of salvation. As any preacher does, Jesus used an illustration. In this instance, Jesus spoke of the relationship between sheep and their shepherd. Sheep know the voice of their shepherd and will follow. In turn, the shepherd will lay down his life for the sheep. The shepherd of old, new the importance of not losing a single sheep from his fold. Jesus was claiming to be the one and only Good Shepherd of mankind.
As was much the case when Jesus walked the earth and is much the case today, many people reject the idea of Jesus being the Good Shepherd. Yet, He left no other option. You believe and follow Him, or you don’t. There is no in-between. He is the gate, the door, the only way to salvation, the forgiveness of sins, and eternity in Heaven. He has laid down His life for you and when you are His, you will know.
Believers are blessed to be called to do the work of the Lord. However, let us never lose sight of the reality of our salvation. It is not based on anything we may do for the kingdom. Our salvation is only through The Gate, The Door, The Good Shepherd and His work on the cross as He laid down His life for each of us. Let us rest in His pasture today, experiencing protection, peace and joy that only He, The Good Shepherd, can give.
