Hello Friends,
At our Administrative Council meeting on Monday, June 15th it was decided that our sanctuary is going to open for in-person worship on Sunday, June 28th. Although this is an exciting and welcome move forward for many, we are striving to approach this with caution, discernment, and the continued safety of our community in mind. In the following days there will be a message including an exhaustive list of health precautions that our church will be taking and what folks will need to take in order to join us in person for worship. Below are some measures that have been established already.

- Per the mandate of the Governor's State of Emergency declarations and the direction of our Bishop, our sanctuary will be set to accommodate up to 40 people, which is 60% of its capacity per the fire code. Unfortunately, once our sanctuary is at capacity anyone else who arrives after will be unable to join us inside.

- Due to the precautions needed to manage entry into the sanctuary, and expecting it to take longer than usual to get everyone inside, worship will begin at 9:30 am.

- Face coverings will be needed and worn properly by all people (over the mouth and nose) from when you leave your car to come to church until you get back into it after we're done.

- All people are required to use the designated doors for entering and exiting the sanctuary. Those who need to use our handicapped ramp will be invited to enter and leave at a designated time separate from the rest of the congregation. Church volunteers will be by the doorways to sanitize people upon exit and entry.

- Social distancing will be maintained at all times in the sanctuary, including at any point people are walking, standing, and especially sitting in the pews. Socially distant seating will be marked off in the sanctuary for single people, couples, and families. Folks from the same household may sit together, but outside of that people will sit 6 feet apart from one another at the direction of signage and church volunteers.

We realize at this time that there are many people who are either unable or not comfortable to join us in person, and that our sanctuary cannot even hold all of our membership under the current regulations. For that reason worship will continue to be available online for the foreseeable future as well so that all can participate. Again, these are only some of the measures that will be put into place, not all, so please be on the lookout for further communication from the church. May we all continue to seek the Lord's will and discernment in how we can be the church our community needs in this trying time.

Blessings,
Pastor Brad

Hello Friends,
In the last week there has been a great deal of discussion and many feelings shared over the possibility of re-opening places of worship for in-person gatherings. This started early this week when the Governor issued regulations for opening under very strict conditions. The discussion has only increased in light of the President calling for places of worship to be opened nationwide. In light of these recent developments our Administrative Council will be meeting over Zoom on Tuesday to establish shorter term plans for our congregation, especially regarding worship. We will also begin what will probably be a longer discussion on what it will take to prepare, open, and function in either of our buildings.
I know this is a very emotionally charged conversation, with so many of us feeling caught between our desire to worship together in person, the varied stressors of sheltering in place, and striving to do the best for the health and well-being of everyone. I have been prayerfully considering the options before us while reading what's coming from the state government, federal government, our conference, and denomination. Throughout this whole pandemic your church leadership has been in conversation about how to continue as Millville UMC, including in the past week.
You may have heard other people to say this, but I feel it is important to res-state the fact that the issue isn't our church re-opening, it is how we CONTINUE in ministry. Millville United Methodist Church has never been closed, we have continued in worship, ministry, and community in new ways. I give thanks for your patience and willingness to wait, try, and learn new ways to be a church family through all of this. I am confident that we can come up with a plan for worship that will see us through these early days of re-opening, recognizing the high possibility for the situation to change at any time. It is my intention that we have a short-term plan that will see the church through the end of my time serving you all as pastor and as you welcome Pastor Wendy into our church family. Thank you all again, and stay tuned for communication in the middle of next week about what life and worship will look like at Millville UMC. May we continue on in life and ministry together knowing that the abundance of the Lord will always see us through the trials and tribulations the world may send our way.

In Hope,
Pastor Brad
