Nicholas was the first Croatian Catholic Parish built in the United States, the first building was an old house that was converted into a church and was dedicated in 1894. It was built to serve the large immigrant Croatian population living in Lawrenceville, Etna and Millvale. Nicholas Church was also built on the North Side, along Route 28, and dedicated in 1901. y until 1995, when it closed, and was torn down in 2014. Nicholas is an active Roman Catholic Church holding masses on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Croatian language mass is held monthly, please check events page. Nicholas Millvale is well known for the murals painted by famous Croatian artist Maxo Vanka. Tours of the murals are held every Saturday at 11am, 12pm, and 1pm.
