Beginning Sunday, November 2nd all kids ministry students (Birth-5th grade) will go into the main worship service with their families until the extending of peace.
The extending of peace happens after the worship songs & prayers of the people and before the announcements.
Dr. Mallory-Greene reminded us in a Q&A a few weeks ago that church on Sunday morning can be one of the most segregated spaces. As children grow into adults, they are leaving the church because they don’t feel as if they are a part of the greater church body. Through reducing the time spent in these silos, we pray that our children at GMR learn that they are an important piece of the church family right now. While participating in age appropriate atmospheres is important and will continue, we also want our students to learn the importance of worshipping alongside other believers and experiencing the goodness of God through songs, prayer, and community.
How this will work + what you need to know:
Beginning Sunday, Nov. 2nd:
-Check in your children on the Children’s Ministry ipads as usual and put their name tags on BEFORE the worship service begins.
-Take your children into the worship service with you.
-During the extending of peace, there will be a verbal announcement and a screen announcement dismissing children to their kids ministry classes.
-At this time, students (K-5th grade) will walk out to the CM hallway where their classroom volunteers will be holding a sign for their age group. Students will line up with their classroom volunteers and walk to class together.
-Families with younger kiddos (Babies, Toddlers, & Preschoolers), please assist volunteers by walking your child to their classroom door.
-You will no longer sign in your child on the paper classroom roster at the classroom door.
Volunteers will have access to an electronic copy of the class roster, which includes parent contact info.
We will continue to send out communication and reminders about this change over the next several weeks.
If you have any questions about logistics, please feel free to ask myself or Tessa on a Sunday morning.
Thank you! The leadership at GMR is excited for this new change in our ministry and we look forward to having kids in the worship time regularly beginning in November.
Best,
Christen Stewart
