Blankets of Love 2025 — A Story I Didn’t Expect to Tell
Family… let me tell you a story about yesterday.
This was our twelfth year doing Blankets of Love. Twelve years. You’d think by now we’d have seen it all, right? You’d think nothing would surprise us anymore. But 2025 said, “Hold my coffee.”
We walked into the day ready. Prayed up. Set up. Volunteers everywhere. Donations stacked higher than they’ve ever been. Honestly, we were looking around thinking, “Okay Lord… You must be bringing a crowd today.”
And then the doors opened.
People came — absolutely. We served a little over 120 folks, and we’re grateful for every single one. But the number didn’t match the mountain of donations we had. Not even close. And as the hours went by, something strange happened: the crowd slowed down… but the donations didn’t.
We were short on girls’ coats at one point — and then suddenly we had a full rack and then some. It was like God said, “Oh, you need coats? Here you go.” And He just kept sending them.
But then came that moment. You know the one. When all the volunteers are standing around with nothing to do. When the room gets quiet. When your stomach drops a little.
And the questions start creeping in.
“God… what are we supposed to do with all this leftover stuff?”
“Did we miss something?”
“Where are the people?”
“Why did You send so many volunteers? Why so many donations? Why… this?”
We’ve always run this event through prayer. We ask God where, when, how — and then we follow His lead. So when things don’t go the way we thought they would, it’s easy to slip into that moment of, “Lord… what’s going on?”
And right in the middle of that swirl, this young lady comes through. Picks up a few things. Sweet spirit. Says she’ll be back with donations.
And she actually comes back.
Twice.
With bags of brand‑new items.
And at that point we’re literally shutting things down because we already had TOO MUCH.
So yeah… I looked up and said, “God… what in the world are You doing?”
By the end of the day, everything was packed into big black trash bags and boxes and shoved into a spare room at the church. John and I just stood there staring at it all like two guys who just watched a magic trick and can’t figure out where the rabbit came from.
But once the dust settled… once the volunteers headed out… once we had a moment to breathe… something started to click.
Not fully. Not clearly. But enough.
We’re not done.
That’s the only thing that made sense.
There’s more to this story. More to this mission. More to these donations. More to what God is stirring.
We’re starting to think there might be another Blankets of Love coming — maybe with another church. The woman who brought those two loads? She’s connected to a church that might want to do exactly what we did yesterday. We don’t know yet. We’re not assuming. That’s why we pray. We ask, and then we wait.
And believe me… we’ve already started asking.
I wish I could tell you my first reaction was excitement. That I immediately said, “Yes Lord, let’s go!” But nope. My first reaction was fear. Worry. Confusion. Because I’m human. And sometimes God’s plan looks nothing like the one I had in my head.
But this morning… we’re sitting here, somewhat patiently, waiting for the next step to be revealed. And if you think that’s a crazy way to operate — I get it. I used to think that too. But I’ve seen God work too many times to doubt Him now.
To everyone from Mill Creek Bible Church and the community who volunteered, donated, prayed, or showed up in any way — hear me clearly: you were absolutely needed. You were part of something bigger than any of us realized in the moment. These events don’t happen without you. They cannot happen without you.
I’ll be posting pictures so you can see just how many hands and hearts were involved throughout the day.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.”
And that’s exactly what we lived yesterday. We planned. We prepared. We showed up. And then God said, “Okay… now watch what I’m doing.”
More to come. Stay tuned. God’s not finished.
😇❤️🤷♂️
