It has been my privilege to serve the Lord as an under-shepherd for the last 46 years. Today, I would like to direct our focus to Psalm 27:1 and share with you my life verse, which the Lord has used to sustain me over those years.

Why was the Bible Written? This is a question that has been asked by many over the centuries. The purpose of the Word of God is to reveal God's plan to overcome, man's problem. When Adam sinned in the garden, he became incapable of coming to God. So, God has given us His plan for restoring the relationship that was lost in the fall. The Word of God is given to prepare people for the coming of Christ, and to come to appreciate and accept the Work of Christ to provide salvation which brings a restored relationship to God. In order to give that instruction, God begins with a time of teaching in order to make possible a proper understanding of the ministry of Christ, this is done in the Old Testament, through the calling out of a people (Israel) and a giving of the law to Moses. There needed to be time for Israel and the world to recognize the need for a Messiah. The New Testament then explains the shadows and instruction of the Old Testament, and fills up the History of salvation. Today, the events of our lives move us to a point where we realize that we have a need for something outside our lives in order to find purpose and peace. It is the Bible that gives us that direction, which allows us to learn to trust in the God who loves us and provided salvation through His Son. Take time to turn to the Bible and read it today.

An honorable life is a precarious thing, constructed throughout a lifetime by the bricks of integrity and the mortar of self-control. From the outside, it appears sturdy enough to withstand a tempest. But the weak spots are found within; and it can all come toppling down in one weak moment. An honorable life is not built on the shoulders of any of us, it is built upon the foundation of our Faith in Jesus Christ. We should never be surprised when temptation knocks at the door of the church. That is Satan's most strategic target. He hammers at the past, the deacons, and the other church leaders, then he hammers at the ordinary Christians who sit in the pews and attempts to seek godly lives. We admire and aspire to be like the first Christians, but they struggled just as we do. For evidence of that we need only open our Bibles to 1 Corinthians. There we find the story of a church plagued by moral failure - a church filled with men and women who didn't know when to walk away. Here we a pattern for overcoming temptation in chapter 10 verses 12-14. Take time to read and consider these words today, and begin to learn how to overcome temptation and live an honorable life.

God will do what he tells us He will do, we do not need to fear. Join us this morning as we look at the life of Abraham and are reminded of God's Faithfulness.

We are told in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us or sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." This is more than just simply saying what our sin was it involves our entire person. Let me explain:
1. It involves a person's intellect - a person must think differently about sin, self, others, God, etc; It must involve a recognition of sin and who God is. It is an understanding of what I did and my desire to overcome those choices.
2. It involves a person's emotions - Repentance will involve some measure of sorrow or regret for our sinful choice. This does not mean that I am overwhelmed by guilt, but a real sense of what I did as being wrong.
3. It involves a person's will - We are active in turning to God and away from making choices on the basis of what brings us instant gratification, and to choices that are made based on the Word of God.
4. It involves a persons' desires - We will have a desire to please God and obey the Word of God over the desires of our flesh
5. It involves a person's behavior, actions, and speech - Repentance brings a new outward testimony, because of the inward change that takes place.
People who have repented in this way have already begun the process of growth and change. These changes take place not as an outward effort of penance, but as a result of the inward heart of faith that manifests itself through the development of the Holy Spirit's fruit (Galatians 5:22-23) in our lives.

Join us this morning as we seek to understand the goodness of God displayed toward us.

One essence of life is growth. This is true in both the physical realm and the spiritual realm. Just as living seeds grow into mature plants and infants grow into mature adults, so new Christians grow into Christlikeness. When growth is hindered in the physical realm, either by malnutrition, disease, or birth defects, the results can be tragic. But it is an even greater tragedy when believers fail to grow and mature spiritually. After all, immature Christians cannot fully appreciate all the blessings and privileges that God has reserved for them, nor serve Him with the usefulness He desires. Like physical growth, spiritual growth ultimately depends on God's power, but it also requires the element of human responsibility. Scripture calls to the believer to be obedient, James says, "Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works." (James 2:18). Our works are not a product of our faith, but a proof that we have faith. As we grow and mature, we assume responsibilities, and those responsibilities are an outgrowth of our maturity. Paul challenges the church at Corinth, by saying, "I could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to those who are fleshly, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with mild and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal." Spiritual Growth is brought about by feeding ourselves on the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15), and as we hid the Word of God in our hearts (Psalm 119:11), we will become stronger in our walk with Christ. If we have not taken time today to take in the Word of God, stop, and consider what the Lord has said to you today through His Word. Don't know where to start? Turn to the gospel of John, and as you read this book, you will be encouraged by the power of Christ to transform lives, including yours.

The Bible does remind us that God is omnipotent, and as a result whenever we feel inadequate, we need to remember the words of Paul in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." Through the power of God we can accomplish all that He asks us to do and go through. This gives us hope for our future, Recognizing, what God has the ability to do reminds us that nothing is impossible for Him. This provides Comfort for us, when we catch ourselves worrying about something, we need to remember again, that there is nothing that God cannot handle. This means that the power for victory in life is not in us but in God. All these things and more, should direct us to Worship our God. We need to meditate more on His power, than on our problems.

The life of mother is the first person who influences our actions and behavior. We see grown men, caught on camera, waving and saying, "Hi, Mom!" As we celebrate Mother's Day, may we remember the influence of our mom's, and as mothers may you be challenged to remember the influence that you have with your children.
