In our May 13 Ladies Guild meeting, we were joined by ladies from the Legion of Mary - Carolyn Dennis (President) and Pat Wheeler. Carolyn and Pat shared with us their love for and personal experiences with Our Lady. Carolyn spoke about the history of the Legion, their good works done in the Parish (a few are: Praying with the sick at nursing homes, Eucharistic adoration, parish events such as the recent Day with Mary) and how the group at least weekly if not daily prays for intentions of all the Legion members, as well as anyone who has reached out asking for prayers. Pat spoke further about the Legion’s current and planned works, and led a beautiful Lectio Divina of the Hail Mary prayer. We were able to think about the first time we heard about Mary, and how our understanding of and faith in her have grown. Our knowledge of Mary was reinforced in the remembrance that she is the spouse of the Holy Spirit, being graced with Jesus with her “fiat”, or “yes” to God. Finally, we learned how to do our own Lectio Divina. When we “hail” Mary, she immediately greets us! It was truly an inspiring event, and we send our deepest thanks to Carolyn and Pat for joining us. In addition, donations were collected for the blessings bags by Guiliana Santiago and her husband, Deacon Santiago said a special prayer of thanks from the Guild.

The knitting group will stop meeting on June 9th for the summer and resume in September. The start date will be announced at the end of the summer!

On behalf of the Legion of Mary I would like to thank everyone who attended “A Day With Mary” administered by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate on May 9, 2025 in Father Callahan Hall. We hosted over 150 people from our parish and parishes in Derby, West Haven, Stamford and elsewhere! The event was enjoyed by all and was spiritually uplifting and fulfilling. Specifically I would like Father Aiden for allowing us to bring back this event, all Legion members who went above and beyond to prepare a warm welcome for our guests, Jerry Farina for a fabulous floor plan setup, and the St. Joseph high school students and Knights of Columbus who added reverence and majesty to the Pilgrim Statue Procession.

As part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. There will be two ceremonies: Thursday, June 11, 2026 during the bishops’ Plenary Assembly and Friday, June 12, 2026 during 5:15 mass at the National Basilica. Both events will be live streamed online (see below links). The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is on Friday, June 12, and the entire month of June has long been dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
