Preparing for Communion Sunday

AM Srv.: How to Raise Children in the Lord (Part 2) (Eph 6:1-3)

Description: Last week we established the goal of parenting. This week we will look to Ephesians 6:1-3 and see how parenting should be authority shaped. Loving authority creates an environment where wisdom can be taught and instilled into the hearts of our children. Without biblical authority, there is little space for wisdom to thrive and much room for foolishness to flourish.

Additional References: Prov 1:1-3; Col 3:18; Rom 1:30; Is 3:4; Mk 13:12; Mic 7:6; Prov 13:1; Ps 51:5; 58:3; Prov 22:15; Matt 5:22; Prov 29:11; 18:6; 15:2; 12:15, 16; 14:6

Scripture Reading: Ps 78:1-16

Kids’ Questions:

1. Why does the Bible command children to obey their parents in the Lord? How are you obeying God by obeying your parents?

2. Why is parental authority an expression of love?

3. Read or recite Psalm 23 and point out all the expressions of loving authority? What would love look like without the authority to protect or provide?

Preparing for Sunday

Am Srv.: “How to Raise Your Children in the Lord” (Part 1) (Select Scriptures)

Description: It is no secret that parenting is in a state crisis in our culture and our kids are paying the price. But many Christian parents have adopted harmful methods due to a lack of diligence in discerning and applying God’s biblical model for parenting. Nothing reveals what we truly believe than the way we parent. Every Christian, whether they have children or not, should be passionate about biblical parenting.

Additional References: Gen 1:26-28; 4:6; Ps 127:3-5; Prov 29:17; Deut 6:4; I Pet 2:9; Ps 115:16; Gen 2:4-8; Acts 2:38-42

Scripture Reading: Deut 6:1-25

Kids’ Questions:

1. What is the creation mandate and what should be the goal of every parent for their children?

2. What are ways a person can grow up and subdue creation for the good of man and the glory of God?

3. What does it mean that we were called to “show forth the excellencies of God” (I Pet 2:9)?

Preparing for Sunday

Am Srv.: God is by Nature a Savior (Rom 9:25-33)

Description: This Sunday we will complete Paul’s final point in Romans 9 which highlights God as the wonderful Savior. In every generation he has never failed to generously and graciously save a people for himself despite our hardened hearts. The triumph of God’s plan is completely due to his glorious, saving grace.

Additional References: Ex 9:19; 12:38; Hos 1:6–9; 2:14; 19–23; Eph 2:12; Is 19:18–25; Rom 3:11; 10:4; Is 28:16–18; Rom 11:7

Scripture Reading: Matt 5:31-48

Kids’ Questions:
1. What does it tell us about God that he delights to rescue people from every generation?
2. What do the names Lo-ruhamah and Lo-ammi mean? How did God reverse their meaning?
3. According to Rom 9:30-32, why didn’t the Jews find salvation? How did the Gentile remnant find salvation?

Preparing for Sunday

AM Srv.: Honoring the Potter’s Freedom (Rom 9:19-24)

Description: Paul has clearly made the case that God possesses the right to show mercy on some and harden others. To those who would charge God’s sovereignty with injustice, Paul has three admonitions: 1.) Know who you are 2.) Know who God is 3.) and know the mercy and victory that flow from God’s sovereign choice.
Additional References: Job 23:3-4; 40:1-5; Ps 115:3; Is 29:1-5; 45:1, 5-9; 64:8; Jer 18:1-10; Prov 16:4; I Pet 2:8; Is 66:23-24; wrath, 2:5, 8; 5:9; glory, 2:7, 10; 5:2; 8:18, 21)

Scripture Reading: Matt 5:17-30

Kids’ Questions:

1. If we read something in the Bible that seems unfair to us, why is it important to think of our smallness and God’s greatness? Why should we be cautious and reverent with feelings of unfairness towards God?

2. What does Paul’s analogy of the Potter and the clay teach us about how to approach God?

3. How do we know that everything God does is right (Ps 119:68)?
