As wildfires continue to burn throughout Washington state, UMCOR is supporting the The Pacific Northwest Conference of The United Methodist Church in their efforts to provide immediate relief to those in need through a solidarity grant. UMCOR is in communication with the conference as they continue to assess needs and coordinate with partners.

Continue in prayer for those who lost everything when their homes burned. Pray for first responders as they work to contain the fires and assist those in need. Pray for safety during evacuations.

We in the wish our U.S. readers a blessed and 250th anniversary of our nation's founding. It seems worth noting that what we celebrate each Fourth of July is not a military victory but a declaration.

Also worth remembering that the Declaration of Independence holds these truths to be self-evident: "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
