Two hundred ninety years ago, John Wesley literally set sail on a course that would change history. It was on Oct. 21, 1735, that a ship named the Simmonds left an English coast headed to America with John, 32, and his brother Charles, 28, on board.

Today, CWS and covenant members signed the Ecumenical Declaration in Defense of Refuge. The eleven Covenant leaders emphasized that this statement is not merely a civic duty but a faith-based obligation.

With the table in “The Best Supper” being in the shape of a circle, it seems somehow fitting that this comes around again from time to time. Today it is circling your way in the company of a blessing. This is for you, for World Communion Sunday and every day. May there always be room for one more, and one more…

AND THE TABLE WILL BE WIDE

And the table
will be wide.
And the welcome
will be wide.
And the arms
will open wide
to gather us in.
And our hearts
will open wide
to receive.

And we will come
as children who trust
there is enough.
And we will come
unhindered and free.
And our aching
will be met
with bread.
And our sorrow
will be met
with wine.

And we will open our hands
to the feast
without shame.
And we will turn
toward each other
without fear.
And we will give up
our appetite
for despair.
And we will taste
and know
of delight.

And we will become bread
for a hungering world.
And we will become drink
for those who thirst.
And the blessed
will become the blessing.
And everywhere
will be the feast.

Beginning Oct. 3, ICE plans a new operation targeting “unaccompanied” immigrant children — threatening detention, coercion, and family separation.

MFSA believes the church cannot remain silent while children are treated as bargaining chips in an unjust system. This is not care. This is not justice. This is not of Christ.

📢 We call on United Methodists to resist policies that criminalize children.
📢 We urge our churches to defend their dignity, rights, and futures.
📢 We commit to standing with immigrant families against racial profiling and intimidation.

Our Social Principles call us to protect the vulnerable, and our gospel demands bold action. Together, we must welcome children as Christ himself and dismantle the systems that harm them.

Please read this call to action from our Council of Bishops and protect and care for your neighbors.
