Time For Change
Genesis 8:22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.
In a few days, on September 22nd the season will officially change to Fall. Autumn, or Fall is the time when we see the beautiful leaves on the trees change. It is my favorite season. The leaves changes from green to red, gold, orange and then brown. Shortly afterward, the leaves begin to fall. You can learn a great deal from watching a tree. Time for change. What is change? It means to make different, to shift from one state or place to another, to undergo transition or substitution. Change won't allow you to stay where you are or remain the same.
All spring and summer the leaves have been producing chlorophyll, but now they sense a change in the season and a loss of light. It is the arrival of Fall. They stop producing chlorophyll to conserve energy. The chlorophyll breaks down,
causing the green color to disappear. How many of us can sense a loss of light, when we have missed it? Do we stop and repent, or do we keep on with our daily routine, burning up time and energy with useless activity?
The tree will start the process of separation for the leaf to fall off. At the point where the leaf stem and the twig meet is a layer of cells called the abscission layer. They begin to choke off the veins that move water into the leaf and food into the tree. Once it is completely choked off, the leaf becomes dry, decomposes and falls to the ground. The tree doesn't lose just one leaf, but ALL leaves. Abscission means to cut off, sudden termination, separation or shedding. Why are you trying to hold on to that which needs to go? Have you felt Holy Spirit telling you to drop some habits, attitudes, relationships, positions, or distractions and sin you want to hang on to? It's time for change....
The tree loses it leaves and seals up the places where they become detached with a protective covering called a leaf scar. If it keeps the leaves, the water in the leaves will freeze into ice, damaging the leaves, and leaving the tree vulnerable to disease and other germs. The leaves MUST fall off for the good of the tree. God will close doors you don't need to try to open again. He may allow the dissolution of a relationship or business. It may be painful but it is
for your good.
The tree is preparing for another season, winter, which is a season of rest. The tree may look bare, and look dead, but it is not. It is simply ceasing from useless activity for that season. Winter precedes spring, the season of renewal, but there can be no renewal if the old things are still taking up space. Let the leaves fall. Let the wrong stuff go. Put away the old, useless things. Time for change.
