Many of you may know that a tornado touched down in the southwest corner of the state yesterday, moving from Three Rivers to Union City, killing four people and injuring more than a dozen others while leaving significant damage in its wake. We've heard from the leaders of the Episcopal communities in that area: Pastor Nicole Smith and Archdeacon Beth Drew from Trinity Three Rivers and Abbott Andrew of St. Gregory's Abbey, also in Three Rivers. We give thanks to God that they report that their lay people, clergy, monastics, and families are safe. However, the wider community continues to face the aftermath of the storm, and first responders are actively working in affected areas.

Trinity is rallying to open its doors today to offer meals through its Soup Pot program (normally only offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays) along with restroom access. They're doing this work in partnership with the American Red Cross. We're so grateful for the ways they are embodying the love of Jesus with grace, hope, and joy by offering their neighbors a place of safety, welcome, and support.

We are all bound together in prayer and compassion with our neighbors in southwest Michigan and with all communities affected by severe weather and natural disasters. We invite every person and parish in our diocese to hold those affected by the storms in prayer this Sunday. Pray for those who experienced damage or loss, for the safety and strength of first responders and recovery workers, and for a spirit of care and unity to carry Three Rivers and all those affected by natural disasters through these difficult days. We will keep you up to date on opportunities to provide material assistance as we learn of them.
