Teacher Faux Pas ©

Welcome back to school! Today’s missive is all about the teacher faux pas (blooper). If you’ve taught children, I’ll bet you’ve had some.

Like the time I was teaching up a storm in children’s church, making brilliant points about the gospel, its application, everything. The kids were enthralled, just couldn’t take their eyes off me. Finally, one girl raised her hand, “Mrs. Cross, I think you have your shirt on backwards.” I looked down. Why yes, yes I do.

Or how about I was in charge of ordering spelling bee trophies? “Parker Rose, Thrid Place.”

Here’s a great one told by a 2nd grade teacher friend. She was reading aloud to her class and instructed them to draw pictures of the story as she read. Too late, she realized, when she was two pages into “The Emperor’s New Clothes!”

Let’s all let laughter be the medicine the Bible tells us it is. And let's keep joy in our hearts as we pray for our students, teachers, and parents.

Prayer for students: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23

Prayer for teachers: Therefore, my dear brothers [and sisters], stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58

Prayer for parents: Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2
