Angels attend Joseph and Mary as they journey from their home in Nazareth to the city of David. The decree of imperial Rome for the enrollment of the peoples of her vast dominion has extended to the dwellers among the hills of Galilee. As in old time Cyrus was called to the throne of the world's empire that he might set free the captives of the Lord, so Caesar Augustus is made the agent for the fulfillment of God's purpose in bringing the mother of Jesus to Bethlehem. She is of the lineage of David, and the Son of David must be born in David's city. Out of Bethlehem, said the prophet, “shall He come forth ... that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity.” Micah 5:2, margin. But in the city of their royal line, Joseph and Mary are unrecognized and unhonored. Weary and homeless, they traverse the entire length of the narrow street, from the gate of the city to the eastern extremity of the town, vainly seeking a resting place for the night. There is no room for them at the crowded inn. In a rude building where the beasts are sheltered, they at last find refuge, and here the Redeemer of the world is born. DA 44

If we could ask the people who lived during those events, some would have expressed their experiences of blessings and difficulties. When we look back, God was not unprepared for the decisions of governments (nations) and the lives of individuals (day-to-day) then, God is not surprised now- Trust him. Worship Jesus. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever". Heb 13:8.

Would you trust him?

I am blessed to be part of the worldwide community of believers who rely on Jesus's sacrifice on the cross and his intercession in the heavenly sanctuary to receive the gift of salvation and joyfully seek to live in harmony with his will & law. The following quote describes what only Jesus can do for us.

"Satan was exulting that he had succeeded in debasing the image of God in humanity. Then Jesus came to restore in man the image of his Maker. None but Christ can fashion anew the character that has been ruined by sin. He came to expel the demons that had controlled the will. He came to lift us up from the dust, to reshape the marred character after the pattern of His divine character, and to make it beautiful with His own glory." DA 37

The following quote describes the reality of idolatry. It is creating a god in the mind that doesn't exist, rejecting God when facing him because he is not what you formulate him to be. Read it. "For more than a thousand years the Jewish people had awaited the Saviour's coming. Upon this event they had rested their brightest hopes. In song and prophecy, in temple rite and household prayer, they had enshrined His name. And yet at His coming, they knew Him not. The Beloved of heaven was to them "as a root out of a dry ground;" He had "no form nor comeliness," and they saw in Him no beauty that they should desire Him. "He came unto His own, and His own received Him not." Isaiah 53:2; John 1:11. DA 27

Have you ever considered your belief in God? Is it a true understanding of who He is, or have you unknowingly formed a false image of Him? This is not an accusation, but a thought-provoking question.
May the True God dwell in your heart and mind, guiding you to a clear and full understanding of his character.

A call for Action:

Instead of living in expectation of some special season of excitement, we are wisely to improve present opportunities, doing that which must be done in order that souls may be saved. Instead of exhausting the powers of our mind in speculations in regard to the times and seasons which the Lord has placed in His own power, and withheld from men, we are to yield ourselves to the control of the Holy Spirit, to do present duties, to give the bread of life, unadulterated with human opinions, to souls who are perishing for the truth.—The Review and Herald, March 22, 1892. Evangelism 702

"Christ was treated as we deserve, that we might be treated as He deserves. He was condemned for our sins, in which He had no share, that we might be justified by His righteousness, in which we had no share. He suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which was His. “With His stripes we are healed.” DA 25.2
