With gratitude and sadness members of the presbytery said farewell to Pastoral Presbyter Hailey Malcolm at a reception (in-person and by Zoom) on April 28. Hailey was joined at the reception by her husband David York. We are grateful for Hailey’s caring and compassionate work among us and pray for God’s blessings and guidance as she pursues other avenues of ministry.

Pastoral Presbyter Rev. Hailey V. Malcolm will be recording Godly Play stories (from the Complete Guide to Godly Play, by Jerome Berryman) for our churches to use for their virtual children's ministry. We hope these bless you and your congregation.

In response to the events of today which have caused anxiety and fear for so many, we offer comfort from scripture and a prayer for peace.

Let us pray,

God of peace,
We pray today for safety for those living in Washington, D.C., for first responders, and for all at the capitol.
We pray today for unity, that you might place within our hearts a desire for peace, mutual understanding, and compassion.
We pray today for grace, that we might receive yours and in turn be gracious to others, particularly when we disagree.

Almighty God, continue to surround us with your presence and your peace on this day when we are unsure what will happen, on this day when we have seen violence come up from within, on this day when we have seen our own divisions reach a breaking point. We ask for your guidance as we move forward from today in a world where these things have happened. Help us to love one another, to treat our neighbors the way we’d like to be treated, and above all to live as people who have been touched by your love.

Amen.

Psalm 121 (NRSV)

A Song of Ascents.
I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.
