Dear friends, Easter will be my last service as priest at Grace, Middleway. It has been a wonderful 2 1/3 years with a loving congregation. I wish it could be longer, but an aging body and the circumstances of life are whispering to me, "It's time." I am grateful to have been able to serve as priest at Grace, and I will remember with prayers of gratitude the whole congregation. Thanks to everyone who made it such a richly blessed call.

Ash Wednesday Schedule Change Announcement:
Because our priest has been called to represent the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia at a meeting of the Poor Peoples' Campaign in Washington, D.C., the 5 p.m. Ash Wednesday Service at Grace Episcopal Church in Middleway will not take place.

The two closest churches that have posted information about Ash Wednesday services are: Trinity, Shepherdstown, services at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and Clarke Parish in Berryville, services at noon at St. Mary's and 7 p.m. at Grace Church.

Tomorrow's sermon will explore the event of the Transfiguration of Jesus in light of our own experiences of remorse, repentance and penitential practices, with specific references to the observance of Ash Wednesday. Done intentionally, and in the Light of Jesus Christ, such practices can "clear the decks" for a truly joyous celebration of Easter.
