You will all be aware of the undergrounding of the wires at the beach and more recently on Indian Avenue. This was overseen by Scenic Aquidneck in conjunction with the Aquidneck Land Trust, Preserve Rhode Island and the Preservation Society of Newport County. The Indian Avenue portion was largely funded by those living along the street- our neighbors- and the project began with our rectory. St Columba’s can be justly proud of our hospitality and with that in mind, the Historic Preservation Trust approached Scenic Aquidneck to ask if we could host a celebration for the completion. We were told that plans were in place to hold a small reception at Sachuest Point and asked if we’d like to provide refreshments for that. What could be more perfect for us! The reception will be Thursday August 19th from 10:30-11-30. If you would like to help there will be some kitchen work Wednesday and Thursday morning and we will need servers at the venue. This is our opportunity to mingle with our neighbors and show them a good time. Please contact me (Meg) if you can help. It’ll be fun!

From the Reverend Anne Bolles-Beaven
Spirit divine, attend our prayers, and make this house thy home;
descend with all thy gracious powers, O come, great Spirit come !

I was praying in color during the livestream of my friend's ordination last month. Praying in color is like doodling with God. No skill required. The focus isn't on the drawing; it's who you're drawing with. It's hanging out with God with some markers, crayons or colored pencils and seeing what happens.

Here I was meditating on the descent of the Holy Spirit. The ordination prayer asks the Father, through Jesus Christ to "give your Holy Spirit to N., fill her with grace and power, and make her a priest in your church."

How is the Holy Spirit seeking to fill you with "grace and power"
and make you a blessing to God's church?

I'd love to "see" your prayers if you feel like sharing!

In Christ's imaginative love,
Rev Anne

Sixth Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 9

O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

We can do no great thing for God,
but we can do small things with great love.
-Mother Teresa

We’ve almost met our challenge, Saints! Our Father’s Day Initiative has resulted in donations of $4,500 in an effort to match our original donor’s $5,000 contribution in support of Episcopal Relief and Development’s (ERD) COVID-19 Pandemic Response to help India and other hard-hit countries. Our anonymous donor has pledged to match our match. With another $500 pledged, we can bring the total amount of financial assistance going from St. Columba’s to help the suffering people of India to $15,000! WOW!

Visit our website to make an online donation, or email the Parish Administrator, to make your contribution today!

Heartfelt thanks to all who are contributing and especially to the parishioner who called us to love beyond our borders. Blessed to be a blessing, Saints! Thanks for “rising up” to the challenge!

You may have noticed the glint of fresh copper on our chapel. (If not, come by and admire!) That’s from the installation of top-quality new gutters and downspouts, which will help protect St. Columba’s for many decades to come. Thanks first and foremost to the Champlin Foundation, which funded the work, including new fascia boards. Gratitude also towards everyone involved for all the hard work!!

There are 7 days left in our Father's Day outreach initiative! The money raised will go to the Episcopal Relief and Development's (ERD) Covid-19 Pandemic Response fund which supports ERD’s emergency response efforts in India and other hard-hit communities worldwide.

The anonymous donor kicked off our outreach initiative by contributing $5,000. The donor will then match what the parish raises up to another $5,000 - a potential total of $15,000!

We still have a ways to go to reach the ultimate goal.

Click here to donate, selecting "Father's Day Outreach (ERD)."
