The Gift of Grace:

When Amanda’s husband Lenny came to her and confessed he had looked at po*******hy, she felt betrayed. He had come such a long way in this sin struggle and hadn’t slipped up in so long. She told Lenny how much his sin had wounded her, and he asked for forgiveness, and committed to seek help and accountability from his community group. Her initial response was to let her hurt turn into anger, but then she remembered how gracious God had been with her. He had forgiven her for all her offenses against Him not because she deserves His grace, but because she needs it. So she extended grace to her husband, knowing she could only do so because she was receiving grace from the Lord herself. Ultimately, Amanda told Lenny, it didn’t come down to her trusting him not to stumble again. It came down to her trusting the Holy Spirit that lives inside him. As a result of the grace Amanda offered, Lenny felt convicted to be more obedient to the Spirit in his life. While that doesn’t always look perfect, it has served as a catalyst for change in his life and has helped him give grace to Amanda in her struggles as well.

"GREEN CHAIR" TIME!

After the consistent structure of re|engage ends, some couples struggle to keep working on their marriage and/or slip back into their old bad habits. David and Cait had this problem after finishing the program. They got swept up in the busyness of life and weren’t really connecting or intentionally working on their marriage anymore. They realized they needed to establish a new rhythm to help them keep purposely pursuing each other and put into practice what they’d learned in re|engage.

David and Cait have two big green velvet chairs in their house for the specific purpose of what they call “green chair time.” At the beginning of each week, the two sit in the chairs and ask each other questions about their upcoming week, ways they can improve communication, and how they did (or did not) feel loved the previous week. They ask if there’s anything they need to seek forgiveness for, then they pray for each other. Sometimes it lasts 20 minutes. Sometimes it lasts several hours. And sometimes they catch themselves wanting to have green chair time multiple times a week because it brings them together as a couple. But one thing remains the same: they never regret doing it.

What an amazing ReEngage Celebration Night! God is moving in the marriages of the people of Berachah Church. We can not wait for the next semester to begin. The Spring session filled up in just 24 hours! Incredible and humbling.
