Peace Thru Christ Lutheran Church and School- CLC WORSHIP SCHEDULE:
9:00 AM - Service of the Word Peace Thru Christ is a member of the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC).

We proclaim to a world dead in sins that salvation is a gift of God’s grace; that Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, paid the full sacrificial price – His very life – so that the free gift of salvation could be ours. We teach that the Holy Spirit works in individual hearts the repentance and faith through which one receives the blessings of Christ’s salvation. The foundation for such saving fait

h is the Bible – God’s holy, verbally inspired, inerrant, and unchangeable Word. Since “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God,” it is completely reliable, trustworthy, and true. It is the only source for faith and life.

We held our Bible Fair last Sunday. Our children chose their favorite miracle Jesus performed, created a visual, and prepared questions the adults could ask. They were well-prepared!

They presented on Jesus Feeds 5,000, Jesus Calms the Storm, Jesus Heals 10 Lepers, and Jesus Changes Water into Wine. Each child was able to explain what the miracle was, what Jesus had the power to do, and what that means for us. I can't wait to see what they do next year!

Holy Saturday

(Luke 23:56) Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

Rest Well

Once it was over, the women must have been ready to collapse from the sheer exhaustion of it all. They had followed the events of holy week. They had seen Jesus mocked, scorned, and driven out to be crucified. They had watched His bitter agony and seen the darkening of the sky. Their Friend and Master was dead and as a final act of love for their Lord they had prepared some spices to take to the grave Sunday morning. The depth of emotion these ladies had felt in the last 24 hours was tremendous.

For them, Saturday must have come as a welcome day of rest. Since the days of Moses, the Jews had observed this day of the week as a time of peace and meditation. No regular work was done.

But not in all the history of the world had there been a Sabbath Day of greater significance! For on this day the Lord Jesus Christ rested from His labors! He had endured a punishment on behalf of the whole world's sin, a punishment that could not have been carried by anyone else.

Tremendous agony of body and soul had been His lot on Friday, but now He had accomplished everything the Father had sent Him to do. The cup of bitterness had been tasted and it was done.

Now Jesus could rest from His work of atonement—and because He rested in the grave, we can look forward to the greatest Sabbath rest of all—life forever in heaven. On this day therefore, take a moment to remember the peace and rest Jesus gave you by offering His life for your guilt. This is the peace and rest the Old Testament Sabbath foreshadowed. Take this Saturday and make it a day in which you rejoice and wait in eager expectation for the resurrection of all the dead!

Rest well, you holy bones and members,
For which I'll no more weep despairing,
Rest well and bring me, too, to rest!
The tomb which is assigned to you,
And henceforth no distress will hold,
Doth open heav'n to me and shuts the gates of hell.

Good Friday

(John 19:30) When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

It Is Finished

"It is Finished!" This cry from the cross was not the last gasp of a worn our life; not a forlorn sigh that the pain of it all would soon be over and done. Jesus did not mumble in misery, "It's all over for me now." Rather, receiving a drink and summoning His remaining strength, Jesus loudly proclaimed for all to hear "It is finished!" Everything had been accomplished for YOU.

The final pitched-battle with Hell's forces over your soul had been fought and won! He suffered for our sins and died. Soon He will shatter the power of death and the grave.

But the words "It is finished" mark not only the conclusion of His dying, but of His living as well. In word and deed and in spirit, He lived in faultless love to God and man as your substitute and as mine His whole life long.

He lived in our place.
He died in our place.
And now, when all is perfectly fulfilled,
Both His living and His dying,
He announces for all to hear—"It is Finished!"

Maundy Thursday

(Matthew 26:26-28) While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Tell and Show

"Unless I see ... I will not believe it" were the words of the Apostle Thomas when others had told him they had seen the Lord Jesus risen from the dead. But Thomas is not the only one who has ever doubted the things Jesus has done. Some doubt His ability to save. Others doubt his very existence.

I will grant you that it's hard to believe this Man died on a cross 2000 years ago and made an offering to God for the sin of the world so we could go to heaven. Such faith doesn't come naturally. Furthermore, we didn't see Him die. We didn't experience the rumble of the earthquake and hear the tearing of the temple curtain on Good Friday. We didn't follow the procession out to Golgotha to witness the ex*****on. We weren't there in person.

So to erase our doubts, forgive us our sins, and strengthen our hearts in the truth, the Savior gave us the Sacrament of the Altar, the Lord's Supper. Jesus knew our every weakness so He decided to do more for us than simply tell us of His suffering, death, and atonement for our sins. He wanted to show us. This He does when He says to you, "Take and eat; this is my body ... This is my blood." Here Christ gives you the very body and blood that was given for you on the cross. Here you receive the very instruments that paid the price for your salvation. The Lord's Supper makes you a witness to the forgiveness of your sins—as though you are actually standing there at Calvary.

See the Lord Jesus! He is given for you. Your guilt is truly gone. This is the very body and blood that washes you clean! Believe and be satisfied!

(Psalm 119:49-50) Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

A Word in Time of Crisis

When a time of crisis comes upon a nation, her citizens look to the president for words of comfort and reassurance. A leader's words in moments of distress can impart peace and hope to a troubled heart.

As that first holy week progressed, the tide was turning against Jesus and His disciples. The cross was looming nearer and the shouts of "Crucify!" were not far off. How then do we find the Lord preparing for that dreadful Friday? Is He sitting in a room alone with His thoughts? Is He withdrawing from society as many do who are on death row? No, instead we find Him doing what He always did—preaching the good news of God's grace and mercy.

How beautiful that is! When the kingdom was going through a time of great crisis and strain, there was Jesus in the midst of her citizens saying to them, "In me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." With such words He imparted to them something far more that a few trite "last sayings." With words like these He gave them the very peace they would so desperately need in the coming hours. Their sins were forgiven. They were at peace with God. This He had surely communicated to them!

Is it not the same with us? When we are in times of crisis, whether it be an impending death or something else—we remember the words of our God and say with uplifted head, "My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life."

(Philippians 2:8) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

The Donkey Kept Walking

Amid shouts of "Hosanna" and palm branches scattered in the road, Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem just days before His death. How the crowds welcomed Him that morning! Many of them thought He had arrived as the answer to their struggle against Rome. Certainly Jesus could have set up an earthly kingdom right there in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. He had so much local support that the people would have started plans for a palace right then and there if He had only said the word.

Imagine how tempting that might have been. As the true Son of God, Jesus had the right to do anything He wanted in all creation. He surely could have exalted Himself over arrogant leaders like Ceasar and Pilate, but instead He humbled Himself and allowed His very life to be taken from Him. Our flesh would suggest this to Him: "Take some glory for yourself here, O Lord! Make yourself a little more comfortable on this earth! Now seize the moment and rule for awhile!" For that's what we would have done had it been our triumphal entry. Wouldn't we in our selfishness have delighted to accept such a throne as the crowds were willing to give?

But the donkey kept walking. Jesus did not pause on Palm Sunday to lord Himself over the kings of the earth. He came instead as a servant to carry out a divine mission that would bring true comfort and victory to the whole human race. The donkey kept walking and Jesus became obedient to death— even death on a cross!
