The eight-day Jewish festival of Passover begins the evening of Wednesday, April 1 with our campus community-wide seder here at Middlebury. Students, staff and faculty will gather together to recount the story of the Exodus, retold in words, song, prayer and the eating of symbolic foods. The themes of Passover are universal: How do we move from oppression and enslavement to freedom and liberation?
Where in our lives do we feel the renewal of spring and a fresh start? How does remembering that we were strangers in Egypt help us remember the stranger today, as we are commanded to?
Everyone is welcome to join for this evening of questions and remembrances-to learn more and rsvp see the Scott Center Events Calendar.

This past January, Middlebury students joined over 20,000 young Catholics from across the nation at SEEK 2025, a five-day conference organized by FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students).
From January 1–5, our students immersed themselves in powerful talks from speakers like Fr. Mike Schmitz and Dr. Edward Sri, daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Sacrament of Confession, and so much more.
A highlight? A surprise reunion with Abby Govea '25 and Marian Ordonez '25 — proof that in a crowd of 20,000, you'll always find a Middlebury connection.
Here's what students had to say:
"There are no words to explain the feeling I got from this conference... It woke up the missionary spirit within me and I cannot wait to share with everyone here at Middlebury." — Ines '27
"I felt like I was home again but even better — in the presence of hundreds of priests, people who have dedicated their life to faith. Their advice I will keep for a lifetime." — Joseph '27
We are so proud of these students and deeply grateful to everyone who made this trip possible: the Student Activities Office, the UVM Catholic Center, the UVM FOCUS Missionaries, St. Mary's Parish, and FOCUS for organizing such a transformative event.

Over the weekend of February 14th, the Scott Center brought 14 students together for a lively Interfaith Leaders Retreat at Silver Bay YMCA on beautiful and frozen Lake George. For over 20 years our Religious Life Council has been the locus for this kind of multi faith encounter, on and off campus.
On the retreat, we got to know each other, sharing our sense of what was sacred to us by explaining pictures of places, people and objects.
We learned from representatives of our campus spiritual life groups about religious observances and rituals in their traditions, observing or participating as people felt comfortable.
Students stayed up late in deep conversations that they are hoping to continue with others on campus by creating more casual spaces to get together and share their traditions and philosophies. Stay tuned for more on the future of interfaith work at Middlebury!

Deen @ Dartmouth | January 30–31, 2026

This past January, the Scott Center was honored to support students from the Muslim Students’ Association to Deen @ Dartmouth — a retreat dedicated to spiritual growth, reflection, and community-building.

Over two days, students engaged in meaningful dialogue, faith-centered learning, and intentional time together grounded in shared values and purpose. The retreat provided space for both personal reflection and collective connection, strengthening bonds across campuses while deepening commitment to living out one’s deen with clarity and integrity.

We are grateful for the opportunity to help foster spaces where students can grow spiritually, build lasting community, and return to campus renewed in purpose.

We are grateful to share a reflection from Omar Alghondakly ’26, who traveled to Medina and Mecca, Saudi Arabia—supported by a Scott Center Flex Fund grant—to complete Umrah, a trip to the holiest sites in the Muslim world.

In the next slide, Omar reflects on a journey that became one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of his life, describing the calm of Medina, the powerful unity of people doing the Tawaf (circumambulation) around the Kaaba considered the House of God in Islam and built by Abraham. It renewed a sense of faith, gratitude, and community that Omar carried home with him.
