OTD in 1873, 32-year-old Lottie Moon left the United States for China, just weeks after being appointed as a missionary by . After more than a month at sea, she arrived in China and began a missionary ministry that would last nearly 40 years.

Moon became one of the most influential missionaries in Southern Baptist history, advocating not only for reaching China with the gospel, but also for more missionaries and greater support from Baptists back home.

“If I had a thousand lives to give, I would give them all for China.”

Does your church lock the exterior doors once service starts?

I’ve seen churches handle this a lot of different ways.

Some lock everything once worship begins. Some leave one main entrance open and have someone watching it. Others keep every door unlocked because they never want someone to feel like they can’t walk into church.

There’s definitely a balance between being welcoming and being secure.

The bigger question is whether your church has actually thought through it and has a plan.

If someone shows up 30 minutes late, how do they get in? Is anyone monitoring the entrance? Can people still exit quickly in an emergency?

What does your church do?

Lock them, leave them open, or somewhere in between?

God is opening doors in Cartersville, Georgia.

John and Sara Cuentas are seeing new Hispanic families walk through the doors of Su Presencia Cartersville, and lives are being changed by the gospel.

Today, they’re asking us to pray.

💙 Pray for every new family God is bringing to the church, that they would find hope, healing, and a community rooted in Christ.

💙 Pray for those preparing to take the next step in their faith through baptism.

💙 Pray that discipleship classes will continue to grow and help new believers become deeply rooted in God’s Word.

💙 Pray that God will provide the resources needed to continue serving families in crisis, expanding outreach, and strengthening this church plant for years to come.

John and Sara believe God is building more than a church.

He’s building a refuge of hope for families who desperately need the love of Jesus.

Would you join us in praying for Su Presencia Cartersville today?

For more than four decades, Dr. Lee Sheppard has faithfully followed God’s call to shepherd His people. From the moment he surrendered to the ministry in 1979 as a teenager, Lee has dedicated his life to preaching, pastoring, and equipping believers to walk as fully devoted followers of Christ.

Lee pastored his first church in 1986 and spent nearly 40 years leading and discipling congregations. Along the way, he earned a Doctorate of Christian Ministries from the Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Ministry from Florida Baptist Theological College. His written works include Take Up the Towel, Before You Leave the Locker Room, God’s Wisdom for Today, The Gift of Jesus, Lessons from the Storm, and several devotional collections. His straightforward, practical teaching style has impacted countless lives, helping both believers and seekers connect with God’s Word in a way that is transformational and deeply personal.

Faith, Family, and the Outdoors
Beyond ministry, Lee is a devoted husband to his wife, Gina, whom he has loved and served alongside for over 40 years. Their life together has been a testimony of faith, resilience, and unwavering commitment.

A decade ago, Gina suffered a catastrophic stroke that profoundly impacted their journey. By God’s grace, she overcame incredible odds, and through it all, Lee remained steadfast—trusting in God’s plan and embracing his role as both husband and caretaker with the same love and faithfulness that has defined his life and ministry. This season of life has deepened his perspective on God’s sustaining grace and the calling to serve not just from the pulpit, but in the everyday moments of life and leadership. In fact, it is the inspiration for his book, Lessons From the Storm.

An Eagle Scout and passionate outdoorsman, Lee is also the founder of The Quest Outdoors Ministry, using the reality of God’s creation as a backdrop for spiritual renewal and discipleship.
