In today’s Gospel (Luke 24:13–35), Jesus joins two disciples on the road to Emmaus, but they do not recognize him. In the course of their conversation, he opens the Scriptures to them, disclosing the great biblical patterns that make sense of the “things” they have witnessed. The interpretive key is none other than his own suffering and death, his willingness to go to the limits of godforsakenness in order to save those who had wandered from the divine love.

And through this process they begin to understand the Bible in its totality, and their hearts burn within them. The two disciples press him to stay with them as they draw near the town of Emmaus. Jesus sits down with them, takes bread, says the blessing, breaks it, and gives it to them—and in that moment they recognize him.

*The ultimate means by which we understand Jesus Christ is not the Scriptures but the Eucharist, for the Eucharist is Christ himself, personally and actively present.*

The embodiment of the paschal mystery, the Eucharist is Jesus’s love for the world unto death, his journey into godforsakenness in order to save the most desperate of sinners, his heart broken open in compassion.

Today, Sunday, April 12, 2026, our parish family takes the joyful step as we formally become Mary Mother of Mercy Catholic Parish here in Michigan City!

This moment marks the culmination of a journey that Notre Dame, Queen of All Saints, and St. Mary have been on together, growing in unity, faith, and mission.

While this change establishes our parish officially under a new name, it does not change who we are at heart. We remain the same vibrant community of faith, now gathered more intentionally as one family under the loving patronage of Mary, Mother of Mercy.

May she guide us as we continue to grow together, serve one another, and proclaim the Gospel in our community!

We look forward with hope to the future The Lord has prepared for us. You can look forward to new social media platforms and a new website soon! And if you love our new logo as much as we do, get ready for the merch store, too!

Happy Birthday to our pastor, Fr. David Kime!

Today we thank God for the gift of your priesthood. Your kindness, humor, faithful preaching, and genuine care for our parish family mean so much to all of us. We are truly blessed to have you as our pastor!

May the Lord fill your birthday with many graces, a little time to relax, and maybe even a slice (or two) of cake. Please know that you are remembered with gratitude and prayers today and always.

Happy Birthday, Father Dave — and thank you for all that you do for our parish family!

As we approach Divine Mercy Sunday, many of us feel an unspoken pressure in our spiritual lives: “Am I doing this right?”From prayer to parenting, vocation to discernment, we can approach our faith with anxiety, striving for perfection rather than resting in God’s love. But here is the powerful truth revealed in Divine Mercy—God is not waiting to evaluate you; He’s already inviting you.

1️⃣ God’s invitation comes before your performance
—Like the meeting that was already decided before it began, God isn’t waiting for you to impress Him. He has already chosen you and invites you into relationship.

2️⃣ Divine Mercy reveals the true heart of the Father
—The image given through Saint Faustina Kowalska reminds us that mercy is constantly flowing from Christ’s heart—toward you, even in weakness.

3️⃣ Jesus responds to failure with peace, not condemnation
—In John 20:19, Jesus’ first words after the Resurrection are: “Peace be with you.”
Not correction. Not disappointment. Peace.

4️⃣ You don’t have to “get it right” to be loved
—Whether it’s prayer, discernment, marriage and parenting, or living your vocation, God is not a harsh grader—He is a Father teaching a child how to walk.

5️⃣ The apostles are proof that failure isn’t the end
—They abandoned Jesus, denied Him, and hid in fear—yet He still calls them “my brethren” and entrusts them with His mission.

6. Spiritual anxiety can mask spiritual pride
—The constant pressure to “do everything right” can reveal a deeper struggle: a reluctance to depend fully on God’s mercy.

7. The Father delights in you—even in your weakness
—Like a parent with a child learning to walk, God is not frustrated by your falls. He is moved with compassion and love.

📖 SCRIPTURE TO PRAY WITH 📖

John 20:19–23 (Jesus appears to the apostles)
John 20:17 (“My Father and your Father”)

💪🏻 PRACTICAL APPLICATION 💪🏻

✔️ When you fail this week, pause and imagine Jesus saying: “Peace be with you.”
✔️Let go of one area where you’re trying to control everything spiritually
✔️Spend time with the Divine Mercy image and receive—not earn—God’s love
✔️Pray: “Jesus, I trust in You.”

Wednesday in the Easter Octave reveals a profound and intimate truth of the Resurrection—Jesus Christ is alive and walking among His people, even when they do not immediately recognize Him!

As the Church continues its joyful eight-day celebration of Easter, this day highlights transformation through encounter, Scripture, and the breaking of bread.

Did you know that in the eyes of the Church, yesterday hasn't actually ended?

Welcome to the Octave of Easter! 🕊️

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is an event so massive, so world-shattering, and so full of hope that a single 24-hour day simply cannot contain the celebration.

Today is the second day of what we call the "Great Sunday"—eight days where we celebrate every single day as if it were Easter Sunday itself.

In many parts of the world, today is known as "Bright Monday." It is a time to let the reality of the empty tomb sink into our bones. The stone was not rolled away so Jesus could get out; He was already risen! The stone was rolled away so that we could look in and see that death has no more power over us.

If you felt like Easter Sunday went by too fast, don't worry. The Church invites you to stay in this joy. This is the week of victory, the week of the "New Creation." As we go about our work or studies this Monday, let’s carry that "Easter Glow" with us. Christ is alive, and because He lives, we can face every tomorrow with a smile. Alleluia, He is risen indeed!

Happy Easter! Alleluia, He is risen! 🙏🤍

For modern Catholics it is easy for Holy Saturday to sort of be the in-between day.

But what must it have been like for Peter, James, John, and the rest of the Twelve!

There is not much in the way of scriptural account regarding Holy Saturday. Good Friday, the day of Christ’s ex*****on, is described in detail. In order to enter into the mystery of Christ’s death, try to put yourself in the place of the apostles or of the women who accompanied Jesus. The Passio...
