1 CORINTHIANS 6:12-20
RUN FROM SEXUAL SIN
One of the greatest threads against the dignity of today's Church is not financial poverty,bad administration, poor leadership nor lack of theologians. Noticeably, is sexual immorality. Sexual sin is one of the devil's most effective weapons against the saints. It is indeed a deathly slayer of spiritual giants. Another Nigerian writer on this subject,Olubumi Ojo, deduced that,"Where bishops and pastors are falling prey, brothers and sisters can not be too careful."The corruption in-between our legs, broaden the gap in-between man and God, more than currently deciphered. Such a wide and deep gap is one of the major causes behind the chaos in the Church of today.
Some Corinthian Christians took God's given freedom as licence for sin, especially the sin of sexual immorality. Paul made them to understand that their body is part of Christianity. Their body is part of God's redemptive plan. A Christian body is part of the whole personality. Both body and soul are of the LORD'S.Every redeemed body is God's holy Temple. We can not sin with our bodies and at the same time play righteousness with our souls. It is the body of the redeemed,but God's Temple. Thus,it must be disunited from sin.
Dear people, one of the major test of our salvation is our victory over sexual sin. God will hardly take anyone serious if we are still captives of sexual immorality, though the visible church may be celebrating us. The authority of God's truth in us has a lot to do with our sexual freedom. How free is the Church of today from the sin of sexual immorality?
It is time to prayerfully make conscious efforts to keep our sexuality under control.One of our greatest sexual organs is the mind.We must intentionally be cautious with what we feet our minds.The win over sexual sin is to love the LORD,obey him,stay discipline for him, have accountability partners,etc. All sought of seductive or romantic affinities, such as the giving or the receiving of money without resisting its forms of temptations or impure motives,not living out the tainted intentions behind gifts, quality time, quality words, quality service, erotic movies, etc, must be avoided. May all spirit of sexual immorality,their projections against the children of God be broken.Let us run from sexual sin.
LORD,we do not want to end in unquenchable fire and immortal worms upon us because of our disobedience (Isaiah 66:24). That is why we humble ourselves before you this day—we are guilty.We have desecrated each other.Those whom we are supposed to mentor into consecrated lives;we have defiled.We have taken lightly your rebuke against sexual immorality.We have no difference with those who do not know you.Have mercy upon us.Grace us to cut away from sin and sexual sin in particular. Strengthen us to hate all seductive dimensions.
