Sometimes I can get easily distracted. How about you? It is so easy to get distracted by all the things going on in our lives. We can get wrapped up in all of the things that we have to do that we constantly find ourselves living in the fast lane of life. I suppose it is okay to be in the fast lane, as long as you are making regular rest stops to get alone with God. Even Jesus had to create space for His Father to fill.

Both Moses and John the Baptist created space for the Father to fill. They were in the desert when they heard God’s voice. I’m not saying you have to get a machete and hack your way out in the wilderness or travel to some desert somewhere, but whether it’s in your car, your bedroom or whatever, get alone with God so you can hear the voice of your heavenly Father.

Hearing from God doesn’t need to take a long time, but neither can it be rushed. You don’t have to pray and cry out to God for two hours a day every single day of the week to hear His voice. Reading your Bible doesn’t mean it has to be four chapters a day. We make this more complicated than it has to be. What you do need is a time that is set aside, a time for nothing but you and God, and you need to guard that time. Pick a place that works for you where you can really get alone with God and detach from the usual distractions. Come prepared to hear from Him, having things like your Bible, a pen, a highlighter, and a journal readily available. Have worship music within reach too. Keep your time with God fresh and new but also simple and sustainable. Find out what works for you and create space for God.

Happy New Year!

John 1:38-39
38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”

39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

For each of us who have given our lives to Jesus, how great would it be to start this New Year by asking Him the same question the disciples asked in verse 38 ?
Instead of presenting Jesus with our updated itinerary for 2024, how about asking Him where are you staying, where are you residing and working in my community by the Holy Spirit, and can I be a part of it?
Oh what a joy it would be to hear Him say, "Follow Me and Come and see."

To be a part of some ministry or work that brings Him pleasure and glory is to be serving His purpose, His plan, His itinerary - the salvation of fallen humanity.
And if you don't know Jesus as Lord and Savior, please invite Him into your heart and surrender your life to Him.
There is no better way to spend the New Year and the rest of your life than walking through it with The Risen Son of God, The Good Shepherd, leading and directing you into His plans for your life, His itinerary, His agenda, His Kingdom.
And when this life is all over, living with Him and God The Father eternally.

Please consider...
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 1:8-9
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing;
it is the gift of God,
9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand,
that we should walk in them.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Acts 20:34-35
34 You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me.
35 And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard.
You should remember
the words of the Lord Jesus:
‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself,
so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus,
to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.

Humility at It’s Best
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. - James 3:13

Though often overlooked, the Old Testament character Jonathan is one of the most remarkable men in the Bible. Being the oldest son of King Saul, he was the heir to the throne of Israel. He was an experienced soldier, distinguished for his courage in battle.

The Old Testament character, David, was a shepherd boy . . . probably 15 years younger than Jonathan. Despite their differences, however, Jonathan and David formed a remarkable friendship, in part due to Jonathan's humility.

When David was anointed to succeed King Saul, Jonathan didn't claim his right to the throne. David wasn't in line for this honor. He wasn't the king's son. Jonathan was. But Jonathan defended and protected David, the one taking his place. He even defended him against his own father. Saul repeatedly tried to kill David, but Jonathan risked his life to protect and encourage his friend.

Are you willing to give up your rights or position? Or do you dig in your heels and arrogantly proclaim your entitlement? Surrender what's due you and see God's grace unfold in ways you couldn't imagine.

- Steve Arterburn

1 Samuel 18:1-4
1 After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David.
2 From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home. 3 And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself.
4 Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt.

To be humble to superiors is duty, to equals courtesy, to inferiors nobleness. - Ben Franklin

Philippians 2:3
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Legalism breeds a sense of entitlement that turns us into complainers. - Tullian Tchividjian

May the Lord Jesus always sit at the Head of the table of our churches. Without the Lord Jesus at the head, we are pursuing our own desires, our own righteousness, our own plans.....we are sinning.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching,
but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Revelation 3:15-21
15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!
16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

17 You say,
‘I am rich.
I have everything I want.
I don’t need a thing!’

And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. 18 So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.
19 I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

20 “Look!
I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. 21 Those who are victorious will sit with Me on My throne, just as I was victorious and sat with My Father on His throne.
