A state court judge has rejected Planned Parenthood's motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed against the abortion giant by Florida AG James Uthmeier for its false advertising of the deadly abortion drug mifepristone.

The lawsuit, which was filed in November, focuses on statements on a Planned Parenthood website about abortion drugs being safer than Tylenol, Vi**ra and penicillin. It alleges violations of state laws about deceptive and unfair trade practices and racketeering and seeks $350 million in statutory penalties, along with millions in civil penalties.

Circuit Judge J. Scott Duncan refused to dismiss the lawsuit last week, writing that Planned Parenthood "did not simply claim the abortion-inducing medications were safe; rather, according to the complaint, they claimed they were safer than other medications. In making a comparison, the defendants went beyond vague promotional language."

The judge's decision allows the case to go forward.

Over the last year, CFC Florida has signed two letters urging the White House to reverse Biden-era rules easing access to mifepristone by allowing the drug to be mailed across state lines without a doctor's visit.

Uthmeier’s office last year joined the Texas attorney general’s office in filing a federal lawsuit challenging abortion drugs. That case is pending in federal court in Texas. The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined, for now, to address the issue when it sent a similar Louisiana case back to the circuit court in that state.

Uthmeier has argued that Planned Parenthood organizations “mislead women about the critical and undeniable risks of a chemical abortion by deceptively claiming these powerful drugs are less risky than everyday pain medication. They know that the profitable abortion pills they sell are far more dangerous than commonplace over-the-counter pain medication... In other words, they know this deceptive marketing campaign will induce women to become customers of risky and harmful chemical abortions.”

Meanwhile, a Planned Parenthood in Gainesville announced last week that it is permanently closing its doors due to low patient demand. Earlier this year, another Planned Parenthood center in Lakeland shut down following the loss of Medicaid funding after the passage of President Donald J. Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill. CFC Florida is urging Congress to renew the ban on Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood when the current ban expires in July.

For years, Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida has fought to protect Florida's children from the insidious LGBT agenda, which was intruding itself into every aspect of their lives — from the public schools to children's entertainment to the culture at large.

Thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis and our allies in the Florida Legislature, we've stopped LGBT indoctrination in the classrooms, successfully fought back against the Disney "q***r" agenda, and with the recent signing of the No DEI in Local Government Act, will soon be dismantling DEI programs around the state that were sending millions of local tax dollars to LGBT celebrations during the month of June.

As another June approaches, we're pleased to partner with organizations like Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) - Florida and Somebody Cares Tampa Bay to champion June as Faith and Family Month.

Clearwater, Pompano Beach, Lakeland, Palm Bay, Port Richey, Melbourne, Ocala and Marion County are among the growing number of Florida communities that have already officially declared June as Faith and Family Month. Over the next few weeks, many of these communities will be hosting FamFest celebrations complete with worship music, public prayer, fellowship and food for the entire family.

The events recognize traditional marriage as the cornerstone of families and society and give residents the opportunity to reconnect with local churches as their children enjoy the outdoors.

"Parents are increasingly looking for ways to enjoy wholesome activities with their children, and June is a great time for families to connect with faith communities in fellowship and celebration," said CFC Florida Founder and Executive Director Anthony Verdugo.

“I wholeheartedly endorse June as Faith and Family Month. I encourage churches, organizations, businesses, families and individuals to promote and participate in all activities and events as we celebrate faith and family as the cornerstones of our city.”

For the last two years, the Florida Legislature has introduced but failed to pass a bill calling for a video lesson on the fetal development of a human being in the reproductive health curriculum of public schools in grades 6 through 12.

Although the bill twice passed the Florida House of Representatives, where Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida lobbied and testified for it, the legislation died in the Senate after hateful pro-abortion activists attacked it, knowing that schoolchildren who understand human embryology are less likely to support abortion.

But CFC Florida believes children deserve to learn that a baby in gestation is not merely a "clump of cells" that can be butchered and discarded at a whim, but a precious life that must be cherished and preserved.

That's why, starting in May 2025, we've been working to get individual school districts to include in their curriculum a scientifically accurate video showing the stages of a human being's journey in the womb.

Produced by the national pro-life organization Live Action, the Meet Baby Olivia video and its companion video Meet Baby Oliver, which can be found at liveaction.org/videos under Human Development, as well as similar videos, have been adopted as part of the statewide curriculum of states including Tennessee, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana and Kansas.

Last year, Sumter County Schools, located in Central Florida, began using the Baby Olivia video as instructional material in their classrooms after CFC Florida and local residents attended a Sumter County School Board meeting to urge its adoption. Sumter Schools Superintendent Logan Brown requested and received approval for the video from the State Department of Education, which has to sign off on any additions to the reproductive health curriculum.

In late 2025, we paused our efforts as the Florida Legislature prepared to file another bill that included an embryological video lesson. But when it became clear that the bill would not pass the Senate, we teamed up with Florida Voice for the Unborn and local residents to urge the School Board of Jefferson County, in the Florida Panhandle, to adopt the Baby Olivia video, which was shown at a February school board meeting. The video was adopted into the curriculum after the district obtained approval from the State Department of Education and gathered public input, and Jefferson County schoolchildren are now witnessing the miraculous growth and development of a baby in its mother's womb.

Now that the 2025-26 school year is coming to a close, CFC Florida is redoubling its efforts to get these life-affirming videos into more school districts throughout the state so that even more children can benefit from them in the upcoming school year.

If you would like schools in your area to teach children how a baby develops during a pregnancy so that they too will gain respect for the sanctity of life, please contact us at [email protected]. We will get you the resources you need to make sure it happens in your school district!

Governor Ron DeSantis this week signed the Allowing Faith-Based Content in Batterers’ Intervention Programs Act (HB 491), one of Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida's priority bills this year.

The law, sponsored by Sen. Clay Yarborough and Reps. Omar Blanco and Chad Johnson, eliminates a discriminatory administrative ban on faith-based content in court-ordered Batterers' Intervention Programs (BIPs) by allowing supplemental faith-based activities to be offered on a voluntary basis to participants referred to a BIP for acts of domestic violence.

CFC Florida testified for the bill throughout the session. The bill was originally filed in 2025 but did not make it through all its Senate committees that year.

"This law restores the constitutional right of faith-based organizations to participate in court-ordered treatment programs, which should never have been eliminated by nameless bureaucrats," said CFC Florida Founder and Executive Director Anthony Verdugo.
