As followers of Christ we know that we are supposed to love Christ with our whole selves and place Him firmly on the throne of our hearts. What we love the most we will worship. But sometimes we may feel that we need some help to focus that worship properly, something or somewhere for us to rest our gaze while we worship... something that some might call an idol. That's what Micah and his mother seemed to need so that they could worship Yahweh, but the need, or more accurately, the desire for an idol revealed much about their hearts and their misunderstanding of who God is.

We want to be in the presence of the people we love. We long to be with them. That's the primary reason that the Sons of Korah wanted to be in God's presence--they loved Him so much that they wanted to be with Him more than they wanted anything else. Can we say that today? Do we want to be close to God more than we want anything else?

What is the one thing that you desire the most, Christian? For the sons of Korah, their greatest desire was to be in God's presence. Their desire was so strong that they wrote an entire psalm about it.

Sometimes, when we've heard a story several times, we begin to think that we know all there is to know about it. The story of Samson and Delilah, for instance, is the story of a man who was fooled by beautiful woman. Her beauty made him weak. But that's not the story that Scripture tells us. That's not even close.

Have you ever doubted God's goodness? When the storms of life assail, do you wonder if God's paying attention? Following God is not always easy, especially when it seems like the people who aren't following God are living on easy street. How do we reconcile what we experience with what Scripture says when our experience and Scripture are at odds? Asaph helps us to see the way forward in Psalm 73.

Samson's career as a judge in Israel was plagued by violence, perpetrated by him against the Philistines and by the Philistines against him. It's easy to judge Samson's actions from three thousand years later, but Scripture is God's revealed Word for us to learn from, not to judge. So what does Samson teach us? Not to seek revenge because it's an endless circular cycle of violence? Or is there more to it?
