Just want to say a few things…
In this time of COVID19, God has given us time to refocus on Jesus and the mission He gave the church.I think for the last few centuries we lost focus. We stayed away from the purpose Jesus gave the church. We built grand cathedrals. Some large and some small. We counted our members to see how many we could get to join our congregations. We got involved with politics, which in of itself is not a bad thing. But, we lost focus when we embraced the notion that politics was the solution to spiritually depraved governmental policies. Then…I tiptoe softly here… often we glorify man in our churches, more than we glorify Jesus and His Kingdom! We lost focus…
We strayed from God’s purpose for the church. So, God in His infinite wisdom, has allowed this season of pandemic to get us away from our church programs, and our church traditions. This is not a season to be taken lightly. Nothing in God is coincidental. It is season to refocus and become the church Jesus called to fulfill His purpose in the earth realm. The purpose of the church is more than gathering good corporate worship, good Bible Study, prayer meetings and fellowship. All of which are good and needed. But, not the essential purpose of the church.

We must refocus to understand that Jesus left heaven, the spiritual realm where God dwells, came to establish God’s kingdom on earth. Jesus brought God’s rule, His kingdom to earth, that’s the good news! After His resurrection, He commissioned believers, the church to continue His work! How you may ask?
Consider this, the church is like an embassy of God’s heavenly kingdom on earth. Our commission is to execute God’s heavenly authority on earth. Jesus gave us the keys to the kingdom of heaven, which gives us authority and access to heaven’s kingdom rule. As an embassy, our divine purpose is to equip believers with Kingdom principles/mindsets so they can effectively impact their communities, businesses, families and jobs for the Kingdom of God. This means the church must provide transformational discipleship that teaches believers how to access heaven’s viewpoint in this evil world and live it out in a manner impact this world with the Kingdom. Enough for now. Let’s refocus on Jesus! Thy Kingdom Come…Thy Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven!

Just finishing up Luke 19. Actually, Luke 19: 28-47. You know the passage where Jesus makes His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the Sunday before His crucifixion. He leaves Mount Olivet and enters the city on a donkey, signifying He is a king coming in peace. The people pay homage to Jesus as the Messiah. Then something striking happens. As Jesus draws near to the city, He weeps over Jerusalem and prophesies that Jerusalem will be destroyed. But, more astounding is the reason. He said, “because you did not know the time of your visitation”. Jesus came in peace to reveal Himself and His kingdom, but they would reject Him and His message. Jesus compassionately weeps because He sees the needless pain and suffering they would experience through their foolish rebellion against His will. Jerusalem was completely destroyed in A.D. 70 by the Romans.
There continues to be times of visitation by the Lord in our lives. Let’s not miss His visitation. Matthew Henry puts it this way, “There is a time of visitation when those things which belong to our peace may be known by us, and known to good purpose. When we enjoy the means of grace in great plenty, and have the word of God powerfully preached to us—when the Spirit strives with us, and our own consciences are startled and awakened—then is the time of visitation”. Let’s continue to make the priority of life to fully know Jesus, be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and surrendered to His will. Know the time of visitation!

The last few weeks I have been reading the gospels. In light of so many things happening in the world and even in the church, I long to hear and see purely Jesus. Today, I was reading Luke 19: 11-25 today. It's the Parable of the Minas. I have heard this parable preached all kinds of ways and different vantage points. Some include a thesis for prosperity in this world, a mandate for giving and various other themes.
But, today I get it. Jesus is speaking about His Kingdom, those who oppose it and reject his reign. But even more so, he uses it to encourage believers to work for Him with all He has entrusted to us for His glory. That is being faithful in routine things of life he has put in our care as we move forward, He gives us more. Think about it, Jesus worked 30 years as a carpenter before his public ministry.. We will be rewarded by Him now and in the Kingdom to come.
One theologian put it this way,"There is no such thing as standing still in the Christian life. We either get more or lose what we have. We either advance to greater heights or slip back." (Barclay) and Jon Courson put it this way,The one who is faithful in investing the pound—be it time, tithe, or gospel—will be given ten cities to rule. The one who is semi-faithful will be given five cities. The one who is faithless will lose the opportunity of service altogether. In other words, Jesus is telling us that the reward for good work is more work. “If the reward for work is more work, why work?” you might ask. Although everyone will be elated in heaven, those who are presently faithful will be challenged and excited. They will grow and develop. On the other hand, those who didn’t invest their time, talents, or finances in heaven will walk the streets of gold wishing they had been given responsibility in the kingdom.
So, let's all encounter Jesus again with renewed vitality and do what the old saints would say....run the race God has set before you . Go forward and see what the end is going to be. He has promised rewards now, and in the age to come.
