● a) La porte étroite (v. 24)

Jésus insiste :

entrer dans le Royaume demande un effort réel, une décision sérieuse ;

des pleurs et des grincements de dents pour ceux qui seront exclus ;

des gens venant de l’est, de l’ouest, du nord et du sud participeront au banquet du Royaume ;

il appelle Hérode « ce renard », symbole de ruse et de faiblesse ;

il affirme qu’il continuera aujourd’hui, demain et le troisième jour son œuvre de guérison et d’exorcisme ;

🧭 Concise Summary

David is attacked twice by the Philistines after they hear he has become king. In both battles, David seeks God’s guidance, receives specific instructions, obeys, and wins. God is portrayed as the true source of victory, even going ahead of Israel’s army.

📜 What Happens in the Passage

Philistine Attack — When the Philistines learn David is now king over all Israel, they march to find and defeat him.

David’s Inquiry — David retreats to a stronghold and asks God whether he should attack. God answers: “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”

First Victory at Baal-Perazim — David defeats them and declares that God “broke out” against his enemies like a flood. The Philistines abandon their idols.

Second Philistine Advance — The Philistines regroup and attack again in the Valley of Rephaim.

New Instructions — God tells David not to attack head‑on but to circle behind them. David is to wait until he hears “the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees”—a sign that God’s heavenly army has gone ahead.

Final Victory — David obeys and defeats the Philistines from Gibeon to Gezer.

🌟 Key Themes and Meaning

Dependence on God — David does nothing without first seeking God’s will.

Divine Warfare — God is portrayed as the true warrior leading Israel’s battles.

Obedience Leads to Victory — David’s success is tied directly to following God’s instructions.

Establishment of David’s Kingship — These victories show that God supports David’s rule.

Contrast with Saul — Unlike Saul, who stopped seeking God, David consistently inquires of the Lord.

🗺️ Why the Philistines Attacked

They feared David’s growing power now that he ruled all Israel.

They hoped to crush his kingdom before it became firmly established.

📌 Takeaway

2 Samuel 5:17–25 highlights that God’s guidance, not military strength, secures victory. David’s kingship is marked by humility, obedience, and reliance on God—qualities that distinguish him from Saul and set the tone for his reign.
