SMALL AND DANGEROUS
_________________________
SCRIPTURE
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. (Proverbs 18:21, ESV)
READ
Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. (James 3:4, ESV)
James provided several analogies that show how the tongue, even though small, has the power to control one’s whole person and influence everything in his life.
When I joined NCL in my first contract I never thought that with the passing days and weeks some "innocent " profanity words would become part of my daily vocabulary specially when exposed to great amount of stress and pressure.
One day I realized that with the same tongue using swear words I was also singing Glory Alleluia in the worship service. So I decided to be more conscious, intentional and careful with my words to be used only for blessing and not for cursing.
We should watch out our words, we should avoid bad practices like lying, gossiping and cursing. All that we speak - good or bad words - have direct consequences to our lives and to others.
REFLECT
Have I been careful and be conscious about the words coming out of my mouth?
Do I understand that I must speak life and blessing in every word I say?
PRAY
Father God, I ask you today to take over my life, specially to control my tongue. Use it to be a blessing for others and for sharing the Good News to my fellow crew members. Amen.
