José, su esposo, que era un hombre justo y no quería denunciarla públicamente, resolvió abandonarla en secreto.
Mientras pensaba en esto, el Ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños y le dijo: "José, hijo de David, no temas recibir a María, tu esposa, porque lo que ha sido engendrado en ella proviene del Espíritu Santo.
Ella dará a luz un hijo, a quien pondrás el nombre de Jesús, porque él salvará a su Pueblo de todos sus pecados".
Todo esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que el Señor había anunciado por el Profeta:
La Virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo a quien pondrán el nombre de Emanuel, que traducido significa: "Dios con nosotros".

The Book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
Judah became the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar. Perez became the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram,
Ram the father of Amminadab. Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,
Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab. Boaz became the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth. Obed became the father of Jesse,
Jesse the father of David the king. David became the father of Solomon, whose mother had been the wife of Uriah.

Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means "God is with us."

La observancia del sábado
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Lucas 6,6-11.
Otro sábado, entró en la sinagoga y comenzó a enseñar. Había allí un hombre que tenía la mano derecha paralizada.
Los escribas y los fariseos observaban atentamente a Jesús para ver si curaba en sábado, porque querían encontrar algo de qué acusarlo.
Pero Jesús, conociendo sus intenciones, dijo al hombre que tenía la mano paralizada: "Levántate y quédate de pie delante de todos". El se levantó y permaneció de pie.
Luego les dijo: "Yo les pregunto: ¿Está permitido en sábado, hacer el bien o el mal, salvar una vida o perderla?".
Y dirigiendo una mirada a todos, dijo al hombre: "Extiende tu mano". El la extendió y su mano quedó curada.
Pero ellos se enfurecieron, y deliberaban entre sí para ver qué podían hacer contra Jesús.

Is It Lawful to Save Life or to Destroy It?

Saint Luke 6,6-11.
On a certain sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him.
But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up and stand before us." And he rose and stood there.
Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?"
Looking around at them all, he then said to him, "Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was restored.
But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.

La corrección fraterna
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Mateo 18,15-20.
Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
Si tu hermano peca, ve y corrígelo en privado. Si te escucha, habrás ganado a tu hermano.
Si no te escucha, busca una o dos personas más, para que el asunto se decida por la declaración de dos o tres testigos.
Si se niega a hacerles caso, dilo a la comunidad. Y si tampoco quiere escuchar a la comunidad, considéralo como pagano o publicano.
Les aseguro que todo lo que ustedes aten en la tierra, quedará atado en el cielo, y lo que desaten en la tierra, quedará desatado en el cielo.
También les aseguro que si dos de ustedes se unen en la tierra para pedir algo, mi Padre que está en el cielo se lo concederá.
Porque donde hay dos o tres reunidos en mi Nombre, yo estoy presente en medio de ellos.

If Your Brother Sins against You

Saint Matthew 18,15-20.
Jesus said to his disciples: "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother.
If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that 'every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses.'
If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Again, (amen,) I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

San Lucas 6,1-5.
Un sábado, en que Jesús atravesaba unos sembrados, sus discípulos arrancaban espigas y, frotándolas entre las manos, las comían.
Algunos fariseos les dijeron: "¿Por qué ustedes hacen lo que no está permitido en sábado?".
Jesús les respondió: "¿Ni siquiera han leído lo que hizo David cuando él y sus compañeros tuvieron hambre,
cómo entró en la Casa de Dios y, tomando los panes de la ofrenda, que sólo pueden comer los sacerdotes, comió él y dio de comer a sus compañeros?".
Después les dijo: "El hijo del hombre es dueño del sábado".

While Jesus was going through a field of grain on a sabbath, his disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.
Some Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?"
Jesus said to them in reply, "Have you not read what David did when he and those (who were) with him were hungry?
(How) he went into the house of God, took the bread of offering, which only the priests could lawfully eat, ate of it, and shared it with his companions."
Then he said to them, "The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath."

Los discípulos de Jesús y el ayuno
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Lucas 5,33-39.
En aquel tiempo, los escribas y los fariseos dijeron a Jesús: "Los discípulos de Juan ayunan frecuentemente y hacen oración, lo mismo que los discípulos de los fariseos; en cambio, los tuyos comen y beben".
Jesús les contestó: "¿Ustedes pretenden hacer ayunar a los amigos del esposo mientras él está con ellos?
Llegará el momento en que el esposo les será quitado; entonces tendrán que ayunar".
Les hizo además esta comparación: "Nadie corta un pedazo de un vestido nuevo para remendar uno viejo, porque se romperá el nuevo, y el pedazo sacado a este no quedará bien en el vestido viejo.
Tampoco se pone vino nuevo en odres viejos, porque hará reventar los odres; entonces el vino se derramará y los odres ya no servirán más.
¡A vino nuevo, odres nuevos!
Nadie, después de haber gustado el vino viejo, quiere vino nuevo, porque dice: El añejo es mejor".

The Unity of the New and the Old
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to
Saint Luke 5,33-39.
The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, "The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink."
Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days."
And he also told them a parable. "No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
(And) no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is good.'"

La pesca milagrosa
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Lucas 5,1-11.
En una oportunidad, la multitud se amontonaba alrededor de Jesús para escuchar la Palabra de Dios, y él estaba de pie a la orilla del lago de Genesaret.
Desde allí vio dos barcas junto a la orilla del lago; los pescadores habían bajado y estaban limpiando las redes.
Jesús subió a una de las barcas, que era de Simón, y le pidió que se apartara un poco de la orilla; después se sentó, y enseñaba a la multitud desde la barca.
Cuando terminó de hablar, dijo a Simón: "Navega mar adentro, y echen las redes".
Simón le respondió: "Maestro, hemos trabajado la noche entera y no hemos sacado nada, pero si tú lo dices, echaré las redes".
Así lo hicieron, y sacaron tal cantidad de peces, que las redes estaban a punto de romperse.
Entonces hicieron señas a los compañeros de la otra barca para que fueran a ayudarlos. Ellos acudieron, y llenaron tanto las dos barcas, que casi se hundían.
Al ver esto, Simón Pedro se echó a los pies de Jesús y le dijo: "Aléjate de mí, Señor, porque soy un pecador".
El temor se había apoderado de él y de los que lo acompañaban, por la cantidad de peces que habían recogido;
y lo mismo les pasaba a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, compañeros de Simón. Pero Jesús dijo a Simón: "No temas, de ahora en adelante serás pescador de hombres".
Ellos atracaron las barcas a la orilla y, abandonándolo todo, lo siguieron.

You Will Catch People for the Kingdom of God
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to
Saint Luke 5,1-11.
While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.
Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.
After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch."
Simon said in reply, "Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets."
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing.
They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that they were in danger of sinking.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."
For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him,
and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners of Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men."
When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.

Curación de la suegra de Pedro
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Lucas 4,38-44.
Al salir de la sinagoga, entró en la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón tenía mucha fiebre, y le pidieron que hiciera algo por ella.
Inclinándose sobre ella, Jesús increpó a la fiebre y esta desapareció. En seguida, ella se levantó y se puso a servirlos.
Al atardecer, todos los que tenían enfermos afectados de diversas dolencias se los llevaron, y él, imponiendo las manos sobre cada uno de ellos, los curaba.
De muchos salían demonios, gritando: "¡Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!". Pero él los increpaba y no los dejaba hablar, porque ellos sabían que era el Mesías.
Cuando amaneció, Jesús salió y se fue a un lugar desierto. La multitud comenzó a buscarlo y, cuando lo encontraron, querían retenerlo para que no se alejara de ellos.
Pero él les dijo: "También a las otras ciudades debo anunciar la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios, porque para eso he sido enviado".
Y predicaba en las sinagogas de toda la Judea.

He Laid His Hands on Every One and Healed Them

Saint Luke 4,38-44.
After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her.
He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.
At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Messiah.
At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, "To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent."
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Jesús expulsa a un demonio
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Lucas 4,31-37.
Jesús bajó a Cafarnaún, ciudad de Galilea, y enseñaba los sábados.
Y todos estaban asombrados de su enseñanza, porque hablaba con autoridad.
En la sinagoga había un hombre que estaba poseído por el espíritu de un demonio impuro; y comenzó a gritar con fuerza;
"¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido para acabar con nosotros? Ya sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios".
Pero Jesús lo increpó, diciendo: "Cállate y sal de este hombre". El demonio salió de él, arrojándolo al suelo en medio de todos, sin hacerle ningún daño.
El temor se apoderó de todos, y se decían unos a otros: "¿Qué tiene su palabra? ¡Manda con autoridad y poder a los espíritus impuros, y ellos salen!".
Y su fama se extendía por todas partes en aquella región.

His Word Was with Authority and Power
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to
Saint Luke 4,31-37.
Jesus then went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee. He taught them on the sabbath,
and they were astonished at his teaching because he spoke with authority.
In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out in a loud voice,
Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!
Jesus rebuked him and said, "Be quiet! Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm.
They were all amazed and said to one another, "What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."
And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.

El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí
Del Santo Evangelio según
San Lucas 4,16-30.
Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado; el sábado entró como de costumbre en la sinagoga y se levantó para hacer la lectura.
Le presentaron el libro del profeta Isaías y, abriéndolo, encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito:
El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha consagrado por la unción. El me envió a llevar la Buena Noticia a los pobres, a anunciar la liberación a los cautivos y la vista a los ciegos, a dar la libertad a los oprimidos
y proclamar un año de gracia del Señor.
Jesús cerró el Libro, lo devolvió al ayudante y se sentó. Todos en la sinagoga tenían los ojos fijos en él.
Entonces comenzó a decirles: "Hoy se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír".
Todos daban testimonio a favor de él y estaban llenos de admiración por las palabras de gracia que salían de su boca. Y decían: "¿No es este el hijo de José?".
Pero él les respondió: "Sin duda ustedes me citarán el refrán: 'Médico, cúrate a ti mismo'. Realiza también aquí, en tu patria, todo lo que hemos oído que sucedió en Cafarnaún".
Después agregó: "Les aseguro que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su tierra.
Yo les aseguro que había muchas viudas en Israel en el tiempo de Elías, cuando durante tres años y seis meses no hubo lluvia del cielo y el hambre azotó a todo el país.
Sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viuda de Sarepta, en el país de Sidón.
También había muchos leprosos en Israel, en el tiempo del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue curado, sino Naamán, el sirio".
Al oír estas palabras, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se enfurecieron
y, levantándose, lo empujaron fuera de la ciudad, hasta un lugar escarpado de la colina sobre la que se levantaba la ciudad, con intención de despeñarlo.
Pero Jesús, pasando en medio de ellos, continuó su camino.

No Prophet Is Acceptable in His Own Country
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to
Saint Luke 4,16-30.
Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read
and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."
And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.
He said to them, "Surely you will quote me this proverb, 'Physician, cure yourself,' and say, 'Do here in your native place the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.'"
And he said, "Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian."
When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away.
