It is with gratitude and sadness that we share the passing of Rev. Flash Gordon, who served as pastor of Riviera Presbyterian Church from 1975–1981.

Rev. Gordon's visionary leadership helped shape Riviera into the congregation we know today. Through his passionate commitment to social justice, compelling preaching, and thoughtful theological leadership, he challenged the church to more fully live out the Gospel by standing alongside those who were marginalized, excluded, and oppressed. His voice was especially strong in advocating for justice in Central America during the conflicts of the 1980s and in supporting the faith community's response through the Sanctuary Movement.

In worship and in community life, Rev. Gordon continually reminded the church of its responsibility to welcome all people and to actively embody the love and justice of Jesus Christ. His influence helped establish a foundation that continues to guide Riviera's ministry today.

We also give thanks for his vision in recognizing the need for quality early childhood education in our community. Through his leadership and the work of the task force he assembled, the Riviera Child Care Center was established 45 years ago—a ministry that continues to nurture children and families and remains an important part of our church's mission.

As we remember Rev. Gordon, we celebrate a life of faithful service, courageous leadership, and enduring impact. We are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind and for the ways his ministry continues to inspire and shape Riviera Presbyterian Church.
