Paul’s third missionary journey focused on strengthening the growing community of believers.

Travelling once more through Galatia and Phrygia, Paul encouraged the disciples, building them up in faith and helping the churches remain strong. Meanwhile, in Ephesus, a man named Apollos was boldly teaching about Jesus, though his understanding was incomplete. Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately.

When Paul arrived in Ephesus, he found disciples who had not yet fully understood the message. After teaching them, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus, and the work there began to grow powerfully.

For several years, Paul taught daily, and the word of the Lord spread widely throughout the region. Many people turned away from their former practices, even publicly burning their scrolls of magic, showing a complete change of heart.

God worked in extraordinary ways through Paul. Lives were changed, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honour. But as the message spread, opposition grew. In Ephesus, a silversmith named Demetrius stirred up a riot, fearing that the success of the gospel would damage the trade connected to idol worship.

Despite the unrest, the message continued to move forward.

Paul later travelled through Macedonia and Greece, encouraging the believers. On his return journey, he stopped at Miletus, where he called for the elders from Ephesus. There, he spoke to them with deep emotion, reminding them of his work among them and urging them to remain faithful.

Knowing that hardship lay ahead, Paul entrusted them to God and said farewell.

The gospel had taken root across many regions, and though challenges remained, God’s purpose was continuing to unfold.

After his resurrection, Jesus appeared many times to his disciples, showing them clearly that he was alive.

He helped them understand the Scriptures, explaining that everything written about the Messiah in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms had been fulfilled.

He reassured them and strengthened their faith, preparing them for the work that lay ahead.

Jesus told them that the message of repentance and forgiveness of sins would be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

He promised that they would receive power from God to help them carry out this mission.

Jesus then led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, on the Mount of Olives. There he lifted his hands and blessed them.

While he was blessing them, he was taken up from them, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

The risen Lord had conquered death, and the message of life would now go out into all the world.

This story reminds us that God’s promises are sure, and that through the risen Christ the hope of life and the coming kingdom of God is made certain.

This video is part of The Greatest Stories Ever Told, a series exploring the message of the Bible in clear and faithful narrative form.

Watch, reflect, and discover the message of hope found in God’s Word.

After the time of Joshua, the people of Israel entered a difficult and uncertain period in their history. Without a strong central leader, the nation often drifted away from God and followed the customs of the surrounding nations.

During these troubled times, God raised up leaders known as Judges to rescue and guide His people. These men and women were not perfect heroes. They were ordinary and often flawed people whom God used to deliver Israel in moments of crisis.

Figures such as Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah, and Samson became instruments through whom God brought relief and victory when the nation turned back to Him. Yet the cycle repeated itself again and again. The people forgot God, fell into trouble, cried out for help, and were rescued once more.

The time of the Judges reveals both the weakness of human nature and the enduring faithfulness of God. Even when His people failed, God continued to show mercy and provided deliverance.

This powerful period in Israel’s history reminds us that while people may falter, God remains faithful to His promises.
