Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are about to start another year, but it will not be just any year. The Holy Father has already inaugurated the Jubilee Year of Hope, a hope that does not disappoint. What a beautiful opportunity to experience a strengthening of this virtue in our souls! Pope Francis says: "Storms can never prevail, because we are anchored in the hope of grace, which makes us capable of living in Christ overcoming sin, fear and death..., it transports us beyond trials and exhorts us to walk without losing sight of the greatness of the goal to which we have been called, Heaven."

We don't know what next year will bring. Perhaps we are reaching the end of this 2024 in the midst of suffering and trials that we would not have wished for, and we have no apparent reason to celebrate the new year. But here God invites us to raise our gaze and to remember that we are his children, that there is nothing and no one that can separate us from his Love, and that the hope to which we have been called is still intact, it is still valid. There is no reason to lose joy, peace, enthusiasm... everything here below will pass away: "I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth... And I saw the Holy City coming down out of Heaven from God, and I heard a loud voice saying, Behold, the dwelling place of God among men... He will wipe away every tear from your eyes, and death will be no more; there will be no more lamentation, no more pain because the first things have passed away... behold, God makes all things new." (Rev 21:1-5).

No suffering is eternal... if we knew its value in the eyes of God when we offer all our sufferings OUT OF LOVE to Him and crucify ourselves together with Him, they become sweet and surrendered sufferings... We would really thank Him for each of them. Let us rest, therefore, in the certainty that everything that may happen to us in 2025 will be for the purification and good of our souls; that our Guardian neither sleeps nor rests, that He will preserve us from all evil and keep at our right hand . And let us ask Him for the grace to be faithful to Him, not to waste the extraordinary grace of the Plenary Indulgence that this Jubilee brings us, and to cling more firmly to Christ, believing in his Word and nourishing ourselves with his Eucharistic Presence, a sure pledge of eternal salvation.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

We must not forget what the Christmas season means for us Christians. It is Jesus who came, who is coming now, and who will come. It is this constant call to conversion to experience his salvation. It is to keep our lamp burning, so that as soon as the Bridegroom comes, we are ready to enter the wedding feast with Him. We cannot afford to fall asleep, to begin to indulge in the pleasures and distractions of this world... because little by little, almost unnoticed, we will begin to lose charity, and with it, hope and faith. No athlete who wants to continue competing and winning medals can stop exercising. It would be a delusion to think that because he has already won a gold medal in an Olympics, he can relax, indulge himself more in food, train fewer hours and still win gold again four years later.

The problem with our journey is that we don't know how much time we have left. And sometimes we may think that the Lord of the harvest will tarry, and we grow weary... because the door is narrow, because it requires more effort to practice the virtues than to fall into vices, whatever they may be. Because it is easier to keep away from those who hurt us, than to forgive. Because the world around us is moving further and further away from God and it’s more difficult to be that little lit candle that keeps saying, 'this is wrong'.

However, God does not abandon us to our own strength. If we abide in Him, in His love, we will bear fruit... Truly his grace is enough for us. But it's time to believe Him, it's time to make a firm decision. If we find that there are still areas of our lives where we prefer the world, creatures, our flesh, etc., other than God, then it is time to ask for his help, his mercy and the grace to belong more to Him; to surrender ourselves more to his love, so that He can complete his work in us, which is nothing other than restoring in us his image and likeness and leading us to the fullness of joy and happiness.

Let us therefore contemplate full of gratitude that Eternal Word of the Father, incarnate, lying in that manger for love of us, stripped of everything, to give us EVERYTHING, poor, to enrich us, and with outstretched arms so that we may approach, with great trust, to the source of grace and life that is his heart. Blessed Emmanuel! Blessed is the night that witnessed such a mystery. Blessed be our sweet Mother Mary who bore Him in her womb and always did His Will! Blessed are we, made into his brothers and sisters by our Baptism, co-heirs of His Kingdom, and children of His own Father. Oh Merry Christmas! May every knee bow and every tongue be silent in complete adoration, before this Triune God who lowers Himself to His creatures and reveals His Love to them.

Happy Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ to all of you. May you never grow weary of doing good, but may you thirst more and more to die to yourself, to the world, to the flesh, and to sin… to live for Him alone, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
